Tangled with an R8 today

Anthony, the 599 must have been putting along or the roads were pretty twisty, because the 599 should eat just about ANYTHING on the road BIG TIME w/o even breaking a sweat! Maybe it was just the driver.
The 430 Scuderia is close to the 599 in flat out performance and superior on a track or in the twisties if you are willing to risk it all (can't imagine that...) and is at least 2 steps above an R8... The regular 430 is probably just a tick or tick and a half above the R8 as you noted though. The steering feel and directness in a 430 is superior to ANYTHING I have ever driven though. That car was telepathic, and with 510HP F-AAAAAAA-S-T!!

Do you know the weight of an F430 off hand? I am roughly running about 6.9 pounds to every 1 hp from what I saw the F430 had no where near the torque of my car which is roughly 460 pound feet. I would have to assume the 430 weighs close to the R8 just on shear size alone. Where these cars win is the F1 tranny's. They shift so quickly that if you blink you loose precious time so having your gear work perfect is everything and you need extra power to keep up on the same level.
So although power to weight has a lot to do with performance so does a quick shifting box. For me shifting is part of the package although not for all but I find these cars to be too much like playing a video game. Impressive and fun but after a while they get played out.
Although, I have to admit they do sound tremendous.

So roughly 300 pounds +/- less than an R8. The F430 was a spider so it still has a .3 pound to hp advantage over my car so I am assuming the torque is what makes the difference. (Please no debates about torque)

Well, it seems to me that a spider would be almost exactly the same weight/hp. 3351/490 = 6.84lb/hp. +0.06lb/hp compared to your 6.9 is negligible. Not sure where the 500+hp figure is from for a F430, even the 2009 model is 490hp@8,500RPM and 343lb.ft@5,250RPM.

And you guys saw my race with the Ferrari Challenge 360 (a step below the 430) a few years back? the quick shifting was cool and so was the sound, but heck, i was right there the entire race with a car worth 10% of this thing. I have a set of headers! Oh, and a street sport suspension. we were pretty evenly matched and about the same weight.
