Default '91 GT won't start - w/only 4 days to SITM!

Decided to drive the GT to work today to make sure all is okay for this weekend's trip to SITM, and it wouldn't start.

It cranked fine and started initially, but only ran for a few seconds then quit. Second attempt was the same. Third attempt it wouldn't run at all.

Came home for lunch, same as first attempt - ran for a couple of seconds, tried to give it gas to power throught it, no dice.

I only have a few days to figure this out, so any quick troubleshooting tips would be appreciated.

Will swap out the fuel pump relay first, then check for a spark....

Thanks.

George,
Let us know how that relay swap pans out.

When are you heading out to SITM? Want to caravan? I'm heading out from Richmond on Friday, mid-morning.

'91 GT's get funny when called upon to make an appearance at a 928 event.
I feel your anxiety. My clutch wouldn't engage & I couldn't get into gear from neutral on the day of Frenzy 11 (my fault, actually). I still went, but I was on 2 wheels instead of 4.
Good luck sorting this out & getting your GT 'back in the mood'.

Please delete or close the other thread since this is a double post, and it will make it harder to follow the info, thanks

Do you know if the brains have been rebuilt?
Does the tach move when you crank it?
Do you hear the injectors clicking when you turn on the key to the run position?
If you get a fuse relay chart you can check the fuses and the relays www.928gt.com go to page 2 and click on the tips/links

I have no record of ECU rebuild.

The tach does not move when cranking. Can't remember if that's normal or not.

I had a spare relay and swapped relays around, fuel inj (XXV) and fuel pump (XXVI) relay swaps don't help. I can hear the fuel pump running with key on.

When I attempt to start, it sounds like it's about to start, then just poops out after a revolution or two.

On a couple of occasions, I heard the injectors clicking with the key on, before cranking it. I've never heard that before. It does not happen every time.

Try removing the battery ground. then try it .
Try reseating the brain connectors then try it.
From the sounds of it, the LH Brain is bad, try swapping them into a running car.
Tach should move when cranking the injectors should be quiet with the key in the run position
If they are sent out for rebuild then make sure to get the GT chips

If no spark, swap out the EZK relay with a type 53, even if the relay in that slot is the fuse tester version.

I had the same problem about a month ago. It turned out to be a bad MAF sensor. Had it replaced with a rebuilt one and all is well. You may want to look into other things before dishing out the money for a new MAF. Good luck

Don't forget to clean the red wires on the positive battery terminal...

Checked the battery ground - good, re-seated the brain connectors, swapped a 53 relay in for the one with the fuse tester... no joy.

The whole brain rebuiild thing doesn't compute with me; there are no moving parts, I don't get how they go bad.

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ht=ECU+rebuild

There are a few people on the board that will rebuild the LH with a new chip, make sure to get the GT chipset'
For a quick replacement call Roger or 928 International or 928GT.com, i dont know if they have any in stock for a swap,

Yup, heating/cooling cycles = expansion/contraction and eventually a solder joint or something else gives.
