88 928 - no start
1988, 928, auto, 45,000 miles - Just got back from driving 200 miles and it ran fine. Shut it off (prior to shuting it off it idled a little faster than normal) and about an hour later it woudn't start. It tried to start but sounded like it was running on 1 or 2 cylinders. Let it sit for 30 minutes - now it just turns over with no sign of it "tying" to start. Yes, it has gas. First time in 6 years. What gives guys???

First of all welcome, You'll find a wealth of knowledge by searching the archives. Use the search titles only feature, it will work the best for you. "No Start" would be a popular keyword.
Here are a few links that can help as well...

your going to have to add a few jumpers to the CE panel I would do the fuel pump first, do them one at a time. get a fuse relay chart here if you dont have one in the car www.928gt.com find page 2 look for the links section then find fuse charts, print one off for your car.
But first check the fuel pump fuse.
If jumpering the various relays then you might ask yourself either what was the last thing you fixed or has the brain been rebuilt

Thanks, I did get it started - but now plan to buy a spare fuel pup relay. For what it's worth this my 3rd 928. 82, 85 and the 88 for 6 years. All have been nearly trouble free except for the self-inflicted stuff.

What did I do to get it running?? I attempted to get the back-up light relay out so I could switch it with the pump relay but the cover came off. With the cover off I wiggled it along with the other relays including the fuel pump relay. Every time I wiggled I tried to start it and it finally did. So - did it cool off or was I just lucky because I never switched relays. I plan to replace the pump relay and carry spares. This forum is just amazing - like I said earlier I have had few problems with any of my 3 928s but when I do I learn a lot. I wonder who many 928s are out there that don't run right when there may be a simple and inexpensive solution? Thanks. I'm sure I'll be back.

I would remove the relay and open the cover and clean out the internal contacts the relay should then work.
Also pay close attention to a melted area on the base or a burned smell it you find either of these then the relay is probably on the way out due to overheating

The FP relay is common to many others and is cheap.
Buy 6 or whatever the panel takes; install all new and if you ever have relay issues again you can swap around known good ones...........ie the horn.
