I clayed mine and had (IIRC) about .060 clearance and one thing that I thought about was what are the stock clearance specs, and how much variance is there between a run of pumps from the same manufactures and different ones.

I have a question for you Greg, are you going to run only plastic impellers from now on?

Will you make some kind of jig to test the clearance of the impeller to the block? (might need another block for that)

With your insert, the dimension will be consistent on every block done, so the only variable will be how far out the impeller is.

At that point the only two things left are, keeping the bearing and impeller in place.
Maybe.

Just as a data point, I picked up a factory WP for the stroker today. I started with a rebuilt Laso, then upgraded to a new Laso, then to the Porsche WP. Zero miles, three waterpumps. These strokers really eat through WP's. (Or do the WP's eat through strokers? Whatever.....)

Anywho, some interesting points:

Front view: The pulley has it's own part #: 928 106 190 07

Pulley detail:

Cast sometime in 2008, the box sticker says late August:

And the impeller is plastic:

There was actually a price drop on some 'classic' Porsche parts for the month of June, apparently the WP was on that list. I got it from Sunset for $597.

thats not all that bad really. That is the nicest casting ive ever seen, Nice to see it all in bare aluminum and it actually has a very very nice finish, not porous like the other ones ive seen. It looks about as smooth and nice as the upper block halves do.

I guess i still wish the bearings were larger but thats probably the best bet for your engine Rob.

SURE AS HELL IS PRETTY! too bad you wont see it. You need a transparent center TB cover or something.

Thats the casting Number not the part number (he said confidently) A quick check on PET suggests 928 106 051 20 is a waterpump part No. (for an 87-95)

From memory what looks like Part No.s but end in R are actually casting No.s

Shouldn't you be at work?

Jon is right the R denotes a casting number.

The Laso pumps also come with the bracket and stud as well.
Porsche pumps come with the bolts as well

I'm just now catching up on this thread after SITM and have one thing I have to write:

Greg Brown: You are The Man!

Of course this is rhetorical since since most of us already new this. But, I needed to say it again.

Other stuff to write: The block damage on Greg's stroker is mind-bogglingly severe. Ouch! Greg's solution is the right solution and we as a community are blessed to have someone of Greg's capability and dedication willing and able to expend the time and money to develop the tools and process to correct the block damage.

In support, the talent available from various of our members that can be combined with Greg's to speed the R&D process and (perhaps) lower Greg's expenditure of resources gives me (and should us all) renewed confidence that we'll be able to keep our wonderful GT cars on the road indefinitely.

I'm waiting until the WP concerns are conclusively resollved. Until then, good or bad, I'm only going to be buying new Porsche if I can get them...no laso or rebuilds..but that's just me.

I do not think it has to be a new factory water pump, but for me it is going to be one with plastic impeller.
My block got hit pretty bad with a steel impeller

I had a look at the 'machining' the impeller did on the stroker at Greg's shop. It is not a pretty sight. Will be cool to see how he gets it all back in 1 piece.....
