Default Are these GTS intake tubes?

These came on my car when I bought it. I didn't think anything of it, but when a fellow Rennlister stopped by he said that only GTS's came with insulated tubes.

I am just wondering if I had an upgrade that I didn't know about LOL!

I wonder how those ended up on my car? It was a one owner who really wasn't much of an enthusiast??

Maybe when he sent it to the shop to have the heads done they accidentally put the wrong ones on.

Shortly after Porsche discontinued the Intake tubes for the 85-86 32V we recommended customers to buy the GTS tubes instead since they would fit in the tight areas beside the intake side covers unlike the 87 later plastic tubes. So that could explain it.

Od course that was back when the GTS weren't as expensive as they are now.

The other unfortunate news is that although you now know you have GTS parts on your car... they are just about the crappiest part of a GTS.

I suspect that especially when sandwiched tight to the intake they will deteriorate rapidly - probably additionally from the surface sticking to the intake...

Alan,

FYI, We have had really good luck with the newer replacement GTS tubes in the last decade. I know the originals were definitely not up to par, but I personally ran the replacement verrsions on my 85 Euro for over 6 years before installing my Twin Screw and they still look new even today (almost 9 years old).

Alan-

Thanks for posting that, it's exactly what the underside of mine look like- gives the nice 'hot air induction' option. Burlap and baling wire, they're just completely trashed.

I now have the fiberglass neoprene wrapped spirals - I won't pay top dollar for what was on there before. Is it noiser - maybe slightly.. does it look better - you decide...

To the longevity - I fully expect they will last better and continue to look better - but even if they don't I can buy ~4 sets for the cost of the GTS tubes

I put a set of GTS intake tubes on my race car once. When I reved up the motor you could see the tubes suck down in size. Needless to say they came right off.

If you remember to take the beer cans out of the inlet end of those tubes they won't do that :-)

Well mine are in better condition then the one in Alan's pic that is for sure. They twitch a bit when I rev the motor but they don't collapse.
