why?

I recently bought 3 oil filters from one of the top 928 suppliers, all came with a sealing washer for the drain plug and were less than $7 ea.

Last time a bought a filter from Napa was for my '00 BMW 323 with the GM auto trans. Figured it's GM so what the hey.

There was NO way that filter was designed to fit in that pan. No way. I figured, how is it possible to have gone this far (thru OEM product development, to my hands) and no one had caught it or cared to fix it. Junk and a waste of my time.

I wouldn't buy anything more than shop supplies from Napa.

I believe the NAPA Gold filter is the same as the one recommended by most people around here. At least that's what I was told and they have been working for me...

WIX is a top of the line filter for most applications, but, Why bother with it when we have great sponsors here that sell the on the cheap.

For me it was having the oil drained and not having any filters on my shelf so I asked my full time expert assistant named Rennlist if it was OK to go with the NAPA filter

Read somewhere (from a respected tech, like Smokey Yunick, Carrol Smith, etc.) that a good seat-of-pants way to compare brand name oil filters is to compare their weights. As production guys can confirm - mass is money. Putting in more stuff MAY mean more quality. Some may speculate this means more restriction in the case of filters, but I think the theory is good. For my old Fords the "Delco" filters seem heavier. Just a thought as many are made by the same people anyway.

And for me, the Mann-brand black oversized filter is what is inside the Purolator box. I can buy them for 7 or 8 dollars locally where I buy oil. One of the very few things I haven't bought from my parts supplier, but I guess I could.

OK, thanks everyone. I'm chasing an oil pressure/reading issue that developed suddenly and will be expending my spare Mahle filter this weekend. If more oil system/changing work is necessary, I'm hoping to get everything wrapped up this weekend and didn't want to wait for an oil filter shipment or pay for an overnight delivery.
