Default 1988 grey market S4- CS

Ok ive been here before but... I talked to Jim at 928 International yesterday about some part I'm looking for. We got to talking about my unique S4.
The engine is a CS (M28471) but the rest of the car is euro S4. Would the trans. number provide any more clues? And where on the trans. is it located.

Thanks,
Doug

Very cool. What's the story on how you got it? Where are you located?

I don't know Jim's last name, but probably Bailey.
How did I get the car? Long story, quite unbielevable. I only paid 1,000 for it.
I'm in Big Sky MT

Is the engine original to the car? What option codes does the car have?

Interesting find!

The transmission number should be stamped on the underside of the case on a flange at the rear of the case - normally not visible until the dirt is cleaned off. Number should be G28.55 if a CS.

If it's and 88CS Engine Number should be M28.41 and if a CS will have the letters SP stamped under the engine number.
I don't know if 89CS came with the M28.47 89 GT engine or the 41 engine.

Welcome aboard, you stole it!

Fuel lines look old and should be changed ASAP (928srus.com) and a jump post cover, that area doesn't like to get wet.

More pictures please!

Cheers,
Glenn

IF it really is a CS engine, I'd get that damn S/C off of it ASAP! Turn that car as much in to a REAL CS as is humanly possible with the CS engine in it... Get a $8k S4 and put the S/C on that... YMMV, but CS cars are VERY, VERY rare and even more so in the USA where they were never imported...

You may have thought that your were speaking with Jim Bailey but I assure you that you were not. I do remember talking with you months ago about the car being trailered in from Canada the trailer having tire troubles etc. and the "owner" abandoning the car.......

Hi Doug - got your message. I pick up at end of month, drive back from the east coast. Glad you're keeping yours - can't wait to see it in action!

James is correct here, if it is a CS, you really have something special there, you'd want to return it to original as possible. A CS would be very valuable and collectible!

All CS engine are M28/41 SP even if the CS is from 88 or 89.

Then I doubt you have a CS Engine. M28/47 are from A GT. But to be sure, would you give us the engine serial number?

Plus that's a non- sunroof car.

Thanks for all the input. I will change the fuel lines and get a jump cover thanks.
The engine # is M28471 is this what you are asking about is it some other #. From the sounds of it I have a GT motor. The trans # is 2J10547.
Here are more pics.

Thank you
Doug

I saw this car listed for sale on Ebay, with a couple of people asking about dyno figures....
