Anyone from 928 Motorsports care to comment? This seems odd.

I have bought several parts from Carl and never had the slightest issue.
I smell a rat on the customer's side on this deal, because if the damage is legit, all he has to do is send the part to Carl so he can verify the claimed failure. I know of no company that will just send out expensive replacement parts without verifying it was the part that failed and not an improper install or other things they can not control.

I would imagine that the time and expense of shipping it back to Carl from Europe is part of his reluctance. At the same time, I can understand why Carl would want to inspect it. If it is a defect, it will be valuable to asses why it failed and how to avoid failure in the future.

I'm certainly not beating up Carl and his business. He's practically a saint in my mind for all he has done to provide creative solutions. It's good to come to Carl's defense, but I just don't think we should be blind to the customer's point of view. If you guys don't get how seeing KBC 6202Z could send somebody who didn't know Carl very well into an understandable flaming tirade, then OK, let's move on.
There used to be an adage in business that the customer is always right. I guess no one subscribes to that anymore, if they ever should have, but I believe it is wise to give customers benefit of the doubt or at least try to see their point of view first before suggesting they are wrong. There probably was no easy answer in this case. As Carl says he has never had a failure like this before, I can understand him standing his ground, but I think seeing that KBC 6202Z would have made me very unreasonable.

I'm sorry, I don't think the bearing issue is minor or anything like someone complaining 9 years later. The description of the bearing on the website does not match what the customer found after it failed. If I were Mr. Allore and I paid $250 for a custom SKF bearing and I found a bearing marked KBC 6202Z, which sell for a few dollars, I would be rather incensed.
The bearings we currently use in our Powerdyne supercharger rebuilds are privately manufactured to our specification for us. The case says 6202Z BUT THAT IS NOT WHAT THEY ARE. The cost of re-imprinting or labelling them added to the per piece price (and allows unscrupulous persons to reverse-engineer our bearing) so we deliberately do not re-engrave the bearings.
These bearings have lasted longer than any others we have been using, and I have tried a number of bearing/race/tolerance/material/lubricant and seal combinations in the last 9 years.

So Carl, If I win the bid. Can I then send you the impeller to inspect. If it then shows a manufacturer's defect, can I have his replacement impeller?
Customers have the right ot be stupid. I Think we have all had situations where we later saw we were wrong. It's part of the cost of doing business. That's why Carl's rep is so important. I saw the ebay add and laughed. I have talked to Carl on the phone many times. He ALWAYS made time for me and did everything he could to make me happy. An his conversations are not always about money, they're about building relationships. About 2 years ago, Carl spent about 45 minutes on the phone schooling me on how to tune my CIS for more power. He did not have to go that far above and beyond.
On the return of the impeller. Carl has to send the impeller back to get his credit. The manufacturer will not give Carl a credit if the unit has been abused. GO to Advance Auto Parts with an Alternator you dropped breaking off the pulley. See if they'll take it back.

A lot of points made and messages registered.
So, Carl, are you going to attempt Pike's Peak again?
Are you still selling the book about the 2007 3rd place victory? Great story.
What's next as you and the young engineers study the 928?

So, is everyone better for this thread?
This is just the sort of misinformation spinning that I really abhor. People waxing on about bearings they have not personally seen or used themselves, product damage no one on this thread personally inspected and on it goes.
I understand that certain vendors might not be the favorites of some and that some 928 gurus feel the need to protect other 928 owners from these "vile" vendors, but at least get the facts before casting stones around.
Becoming a 928 Rennlist Sponsor and debuting products in these "shark" infested waters sure does change one's perspective a bit. Guess I got to toughen up a bit and "smell the coffee."
Getting off my soap box,
