Default OB Remote Locks

I just finished a very simple up grade to my 81 & 83 locking system. i see alot of threads on here for S4 remote locks w/all the alarm & light hook ups, but nothing that really shows (multiple searches) a simple hook up for just the locks for OB's; everythingelse can be added later.
I got my units from JC Whitney for about $40 ea. You can find them better and cheaper ones other places, but this was my semi-yearly order just to keep getting the catalog' They are made by IC Dynamics http://www.icdynamics.com/ and offer any configuration you might want.
I only had to use 5 wires to get the results i needed; RED(+), BLACK(-), WHITE(negative polarity), YELLOW(lock), and GREEN(unlock). Other units may use other colors, but they hook up the same.
The lock/unlock wires on my 928's just happen to correspond with the same colors on the ICD unit. They are located above the under dash tray on the passenger side where all the wires from the passenger door come into the care. I sliced the GREEN/YELLOW wires from the unit into these wires using the blue quick connects.
Next I joined the BLACK and WHITE wires together w/an eyelet terminal and grounded it under on of the CE's mounting bolts.
I then sliced the RED + wire onto one of the two fuses that power the locks. these are usually tucked behind the CE.
I then just tucked the whole thing in behind the CE door down in front of the CE, because of time contraints. It works fine there, but I went back later and mounted it in a space between the glovebox and the side of the car; under the large AC vent that goes to the pass. door.
I also used this same unit on my 951. there is a hatch switch that works great once you burn out the printed circuit and repalce it w/a wire taht will handle the motor that operates the hatch.
I hope this helps all the OB owners that are wanting this kind of upgrade, but cant find any instructions.

Excellent.

For us guys with even OLDER Vaccuum locks...I decided to do a similar thing. (I just couldn't get the damn vacuum thing to work, to unreliable and PITA to get all the parts working plus it was very expensive versus going electronic). So...I don't have pics, but I bought the black widow keyless entry system from parts express with two $6 electronic door actuators. Mounted the main unit in a similar location. I tucked mine behind the CC unit so the remote wire would stick out farther for better range.

I went a little crazier and did the remote starter kill, dome light, fog-light and horn hook up as well when you click the the lock-unlock buttons with the remote.

I feel like I have new car!!

Did the same thing with my 79'. Remote locks are very nice. :-)

May a hex be put upon the man that invented the Scotchlok!

I will not allow them in my shop except on cars that I am going to charge a lot of money on to remove the Scotchlok's and repair the wiring on.

If I have a car come in with electrical problems and see them, the first thing I say to the owner is "This may get expensive".

They cut wires, introduce dissimilar metal corrosion and a host of other issues.

Great info. Couldn't find it at JC Whitney. If nothing else I can use your info to hook it to my alarm.

Couldn't agree more. I always solder and tape or shrink wrap my connections if possible.

I always soldier and heat shrink mine too. These were handy to see if it would work, since there is no info on OB's on this.
So other than that, was that good info or just criticism for the sake of it to get another post?

It was telling you that even putting them on to test is not a good idea.

It still cuts the wires, insulation, it still introduces a place for corrosion to take hold, even when you do it for a test.

I was trying to save you some pain down the road.

PS, I could care less about my post count or being critical of you, that was not my intent.

My first thought when I saw the pictures, was that it looked like so many other "See what the PO did "
threads.

No offense taken & you are right, when I see these things I just know that the rest of the job is going to get worse as it goes along. Ziplocks are the last attempt by PO's to do it 'right' before they get out the hedge shears and electrical tape.
Now where is my heat shrink!!

Excellent write up!! I know the clips are temporary and IMHO a good idea if one is not sure if it will work that go around. A lot of wasted time soldering if it needs to be disassembled right away.

GOOD JOB...this will help with my sons car. THANKS
