LeMans and factory 928 Cup car info needed
I need pictures and any design/construction information regarding the side windows for the 928 that ran Le Mans in the 80's and for the 928 Cup car(s). Did the doors have glass windows, polycarbonate/Lexan windows, or were they windowless with side nets?
In this pic, it appears that the Le Mans car had a roll down glass or polycarbonate window and no net.

Wow. Nice. Hope somebody has the history for you.
Let me and Jadz 928 know when you go to VIR, one of us may be able to help you out if you want help.
BTW, tell Michael that I can remove that auto tr when convenient for him.

We need to find a day to finish Mike's car. He's having a hard time getting some free time with work and the two young kids. Without the car, he will probably skip on SITM.
If I can work out the rules issue and nothing goes wrong with the build, I should be at VIR late July (race), early Oct (race), and mid-November (play time/instructing/HPDE). They are meeting to decide on the ruling Monday or Tuesday. I need the pics or technical information requested above before then.

One thing is almost certainly sure. They weren't windowless with side nets. This is purely US thing which is not use in Europe since most race class run rain or shine and need to have possibility to close windows.

+1, would love to drive down and watch/support/pit for you if you need a hand or someone to keep your beer cold/flip burgers.

That's what I am hoping. If I can show how a factory race car, factory supported race car, or car in a major series had the side windows mounted... I can emulate it.

I do not want to install a window net. Currently side windows are legal, but they are planning to change the rule. 911s can easily get around the new restrictive rule because FIA race legal side windows were/are a factory option.

Thanks everybody! I've actually found a huge amount of information on racing 928s in the last 2 days. Apparently 83-85 was a big time for racing 928s.
On the Max Moritz/Strosek car, the Dutch Stallion, Fat Bully, and the red 1988 24H of Nurburgring car (OBehave's last pic), does anybody know how the windows are mounted? Are they simply slid into the track and held from below? Are they glued, riveted, bolted, or otherwise fastened in place? Do any have an external release for the window for emergency workers?

You got some catching up to do bigmouth. That pic is from '88, so you're what, 21 years late by EU standards...?
