Symptom for clutch slippage?

A few times (sporadic), while at highway speeds (> 60mph), engine fully warmed, I hit the gas to accelerate and the RPM goes up about 500 to 1000 rpm but no increase in speed. I repeat it and it behaves as normal. I tried the clutch slippage test by trying to hold the car stationary on a steep hill with the clutch and accelerator and it passed. Out of 1 week of driving last week, it happened about 3 times. The gear lever was fully engaged in 5th, every time.
Any thoughts?

I have only done 2x burn-outs since I had the car and that is how I can tell I need a new clutch. It slipped really bad both times, but I am lucky as I can't get it to slip under hard acceleration (but no burn-out).

Put the car in a high gear like 4th or 5th. Put the parking brake on. Then release the clutch. If the engine immediately stalls, the clutch is holding. If you're able to get some revs out of it before it stalls then it's slipping. ![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
The good thing is that it's an easy clutch to replace. Lots of help around here.

Get on the highway at a low speed in a high gear. Like 4th gear starting at 20 mph. Go WOT. If your clutch is going to slip it will at peak torque. This is always most noticeable on the highway in the top couple gears.

even better, just do a fast shift between 3rd and 4th near redline (100mph range) and see if it slips. the releasing of the clutch with the engine at 4000rpm and not perfect matching of rpms, will show a weak link. you can also floor your car in 3rd around 4krpm and slightly put in the clutch and let it out before you get more than 500rpm rise. if it brings the rpm down quickly, the clutch is good. if it takes a little bit of time, it could be cooked or weak.
