TT-Trans R&R - CV joint wear

I am in the process of removing the torque tube and transmission on my 84. Last night I removed the axle shafts and today I began taking them apart for cleaning and inspection. I found both inner CV joints have a small pit on one of the ball grooves (photo).
I am sure I will have to replace these; however, my concern is the other side of the axle that can not be removed and inspected (closely). If the trans side are as bad as in the photo I would presume the other ends are in about the same shape or worse. The grease from the other ends is very runny - like water.
How do I tell if the other ends are pitted or scored? The WSM does not specify this.
Do I assume if the ones near the trans are bad - I should replace the shafts ($$$)?
I would appreciate any input on this.
Thanks in advance,
Tom

Have the same situation as you. Scant references. Folks here said clean repack, as above, which is what I'm doing.
Also, can reverse sides of axles, but i forget which one was on which side.
One reference suggests using later model axles if replacements are needed.

Make sure to follow the WSM for reassembly instructions..

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my TT on my 83, with all the ensuing WYIT issues. Just clean them real good (kerosene works great) make sure they are completely dry and repack them. It's not all that difficult to take them totally apart. Then swap sides. This will move the bearings away from where they used to run onto a 'new' race area. Should be good for another 100K.
