Help please: Air pump removal link
Unable to find the link with the "How to" info. I have it printed at the office but want to start doing it this weekend at home. Anyone has it? Please and thank you.

Cut the air pump belt.
The hose from the pump up to the filter, the hose from diverter to the air filter box and the line from the diverter to the cats should be disconnected. If you can't get the metal line off of the cats cut it then bend over to seal the exhaust gases. Then there's the hose from the pump to the diverter, the diverter valve itself and the pump.
There's a vacuum line to the diverter that will have to be plugged as well as the hole in the bottom of the air box.
Getting the pump out is easier if the a/c compressor is loosened.

Thanks Malcolm. I just did all of that about 1/2 hr ago. Then I thought, oh what the hell remove the pump. THEN I saw the bolt facing backwards. Oh well.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

My pump was disconnected by removing the belt a few years ago. I just removed / rebuilt / intalled it back. All the bearing inside were like new. It needed a little rust cleaning. It runs like a new one now.
Removing the A/C compressor helped a lot. I disconnected the hoses from the diverter and the filter housing and left the other ends connected to the pump. It then pulls down easily. Reverse the process to re-install.
I did it because I felt the center console inside the car was hot during extended operation and my ROW model has a CAT temp sensor that would go off from time to time. My son (he's a mechanic) recommended that I repair the pump to cool down the CATs by adding air and help the catalytic process. It didn't cost a buck to try it, so I did it. We'll see...

The air pump is required for the OEM cats...........they will run very hot without.
The solution is to remove the cats and replace with a X pipe with or without modern cats which do not required air.
