I agree, I have seen cars come at over 1200 PPM on HC and do a cleaning, drive that full tank out and the HC's be less than 50 PPM.
With no other work done on the car.

It really does work for cleaning the back side of the valves and intake.
We can show folks with a video borescope before and after and it makes believers out of every one that sees it.

Like you I am not sure it is going to help with NOX, but the way these cars suck up oil in the intake it sure cant hurt.

It takes a good solid hour and a half, but it should not soak like some other products do, as soon as the intake air cleaner is ran, the car should be taken out and driven hard for a couple of miles.
If it cools down before the drive, you have to start over.

If it is a dealership in SD I would say the money is about right.

Luan, I think there is a $$ limit on what you have to spend to get your car to pass. Have your read up on the http://dmv.ca.gov/ site?

BG treatment should be about $150. It is three chemicals. Maybe $270 in La Jolla. Shop around. Almost all repair shops do it. You can go to the BG Products website - they have locator that will help you find a shop. Here it is:
http://www.bgfindashop.com/locator/index.php

A tip: Have them pull the small breather hose off the left side of the oil filler neck and use that hose (not the filler neck connection) as the fill point for the treatment. That hose leads to the bottom of the throttle housing. Some shops will use the large vacuum source on the left side of the intake and that will not get all the cylinders evenly and will not clean the entire intake.

Bill, they should have a atomizer that goes into the MAF elbow right before the throttle body.
This is mine

This is just before the throttle body.

If the shop wants to just hook up to a vacuum line, I would look for another shop.

This is only for the air intake cleaner.

For the injector cleaner, it really needs to run off just that with the return plugged, with a injection cleaner like this.

then the 44K goes into the tank which should then be filled.

That is the way BG says to do it.

The kit.

Oh. That's not how I've seen it done, but it sure worked. Hard carbon (and lots of it) on the backs of the valves, which usually takes weeks to soften in something like Berrymans, was completely gone. They were going to use the side intake port I mentioned and I talked them into using the front vacuum line into the throttle. So, the chemicals are harmless to plastic in the MAF. OK.

I would not get it in the MAF, my guess is it would eat it up.

My intent is not to hijack this thread but share with all my recent NJ emissions tests on my '86.5. I'm running stock chips with a crossover and high-flow cats.

About three weeks ago I failed for high NOx (see post #19). This past weekend, I replaced the Bosch Platinum spark plugs with copper ones and also found the vacuum line to the HVAC controller had pulled out of the 3-way tap at the brake booster. This evening I passed the emissions tests.

Here's my readings:

Standard 1st Reading 2nd Reading
CO% 0.88 0.02 0.00
HC 157 45 17
NOx 1184 2159 387
CO2% --- 14.4 13.9

The first and second emissions tests were performed on the same machine. I think the high NOx in the first test was probably due to the vacuum leak.

Adam

Gotcha. I missed that you wrote the MAF elbow right before the throttle.

That BG stuff is pretty close to being a "Mechanic in a Can" as it gets, good stuff.

So... it was clogged injectors that was making it run lean then?

Or the BG service took the carbon off the tops of the pistons and in doing so lowered the compression and in turn the NOX.
