Mine understands the 1800 (we dated in one over 30 years ago) and the 928. Still doesn't understand why there are 4 of the latter in the driveway, though. Only really good one is the 928 she drives.
Am knocking off the projects one at a time. All the big stuff. 2 steps forward, 1 back on a good day. They will not defeat me.

The 928's as Erik or Dave said, are the kind of car you have to spend time with to understand why they are so great.
If you have never driven one and just get in one and drive it to the local fast food joint, you are going to be wondering what the big deal is, but spend a few hours at take me to jail speeds and it becomes very clear.

I'm just a plugger.
Its hard to stay motivated. Its therapy but I get plenty of pressure. House is neglected. Parts cost.
Take a few steps away, then hit it again.
Blown, you're coming around. Deep breath, beer, wrench, repeat.

I really do not understand why there are no retro rods based on the P1800, we have worked on a couple of restorations, neat little cars.

In my job, I get to drive some pretty high end cars, I will still take the 928 over any that I have driven.

Chris I too do the same thing. Hit it hard and then slack up until I decide to do something else to the car. At this point the car has been down since I believe new years from one PITA after another trying to get all 4 shocks and springs changed. I've been dead in the water for 2-3 weeks trying to get the adjusting sleeve off one of my front shocks only after destroying the shock today on a 4000 lb press did I figure out I have what I believe to be OEM bilsteins on the front and the sleeve isn't removable. The threads are built on the shock. Hi Ho Hi Ho it's off to buy more parts I go
Oh yea my spring purch's don't fit the new bogies either

No Make Up Sex . . . so fixing things part of the fun
A good friend says working on cars is really just a reflection of our own compulsions. It's all relative how much fixing you see as needing to be done. Fixing things is part of the fun and, speaking as a future $%&^* PO, part of the education.

Just put in a brand new radiator and a bunch of hoses and belts so I can’t sell the car now; after all, I’ve got to get my money’s worth out of all those new parts. A similar rationale repeats itself regularly, though with different parts, somewhat like Groundhog Day. This has been going on for about four years now.
On the other side of the ledger, I’m financially about where I’d be if I’d bought a new Kia something or other.

Didnt buy the 944. I bought 2 more houses instead. So I've got more work to do than I have time lately.
Opps who am I telling. You have a disassembled 928 on your hands.
Anyway , I'll stop by when I'm heading your way and help you(with a clod beer).

In the middle of my 928 adventures, I bought a cheap 633CSI to run around in, while I let the 928 languish in abandon. I needed to get that I could put it down, or that I had to have it fixed, or sell it, or have any kind of resolution around it.
It was driving me crazy when I just had to have it fixed, and right now. It didn't work like that, but eventually the car became a reliable runner.
