Default AC tensioner?

I noticed this when I was under my car this weekend. This is the bottom of the AC. It seems like this should be connected to the AC unit somehow. Is it missing something?

Yes. A bolt is supposed to go through that loop and it is supposed to go through the bracket behind it and into the threaded hole behind that. The idea is that as you crank on the nut at the bottom, it pushes the compressor along the bracket to tension the belt. Your A/C belt may not be so loose because the other pivot bolts for the compressor are very tight.

sometimes the threaded hole in the compressor gets stripped the solution is to fit a nut to the back side of the ear and then tighten the bolt, NO NEED for extra torque here as the threads in the compressor are usually aluminum and of a specific thread.
ACE usually has the correct bolt and nut

That's what I thought and ditto on the tension. The belt is a little slack and I wonder if it gets looser or tighter while operating. I'll put a bolt on there when I crawl back under tonight to finish up my work.

Thanks.

Also, you'll need one or two thick washers between the banjo and the bracket for it to align properly.
