Default Handbrake cable

I am in the process of cleaning up the whole of the rear suspension, triggered by unremovable shocks. I lowered the complete assembly, removed the tranny, removed the carrier between the right and left suspension (yes, that beautiful casting will show all of its beuty again). Now I would like to remove the hand brake cables but I am puzzled at how to do that. The wsm says to "unhook" it but it really isn't clear how to. Anyone btdt?

remove the cover over the hand brake, spray the cable thats going into the chassis letting it soak this is in the lower portion of the DS wheel well. Remove the locking nut and the tensioning nut from the cable at the hand brake, slide the cable through the spring. The cable will stay with the rear X member.
Grasp the housing where it enters the chassis and twist and pull till it comes out. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Thank you for your response MrMerlin but that part was the first thing I did. It came out very easily. The hard part is unhooking it from the anchorplates where the braking shoes are activated. I have done this job on a number of cars including my 911S but it puzzels me how to do it at my 928.

just leave the cables in the backing plates, they can be removed but it is a little more difficult to do, unless your replacing the cables
