Guys thank you for all the information. I just went to the Auto store to pick up the sulfuric so I'm all set with respect to that.

The tubing is another story, the guys behind the counter didn't have a clue and couldn't offer any help. I'm heading to NAPA tonight and if that doesn't work I'm going to Lowes tomorrow to pick up some poly tube.

I'll post pictures of the battery tonight since the two openings look much different than any posted here already.

Thanks again for all the help on this.

Something else I was wondering about......

Many of you have the tube routed through the electrical gromet. I remember on my S4 there was a small opening at the front of the battery box which was just large enough for the hose to pass through and that is how it was routed on that car. Is this the right way or should it go through the gromet?

I too visited home depot....

I dont use the black drip tube - I find it kinks too easily - the clear vinyl stays more flexible - and you can more easily see vapor condensation (and any liquid...).

However my "T" joint at the +ve end is actually a drip irrigation part - fitted my battery perfectly.

Any grommet that seals well and doesn't kink the tube is fine.

Never let it be said that Alan did any wiring job half-assed. Nice work.

Afshin, it's no surprise that your battery box looks different. The pics above are from opposite ends of the spectrum, a '78 and a '94. The principles still apply though -- route the hose outside, don't kink it, make sure it can't drip on anything important, etc. As long as you adhere to those basics it really doesn't matter where you route it.

Yes it is all actually a very tight fit (the wheel still goes in). It does look a bit nicer than this normally of course...

A few shots of the batter. After a closer look it definitely appears that the negative side connection is plugged and only the positive is open. Maybe someone can confirm this?

My original GTS battery looked like this: a little different physically, ratings seem a little higher... and of course - ITS WHITE !!

Its OK to have one vent hose, it is all connected to the inside vapor run inside the battery, since the one is functional by the pos terminal you can hook up a short piece of hose and run it through the hole in the front of the battery box.
Like i said B4 if you need the hose to stay in a bent position after it routs outside of the hole simply make a few wraps of mechanics wire around the tube then bend it to suit it will stay where you put it.

Most motorclycle dealerships have batt acid in stock most bike batts come dry too. I'm sure they would fill it for you very cheaply. They proly have all the tubing to fit also.

Wow!

It's actually made in Germany.

When charging, make sure it's in a ventilated area. Think charging the lead cells produces Hydrogen.

Default Finally Finished

Took me about an hour to safely add the acid to the battery without a drip, what a pain in the but that was. I borrowed a battery charger which needed about 6 hours for a full charge.

As suggested by Dr. Bob I made my way to Lowes and picked up some 1/4" drip irrigation tubing which worked out beautifully. It fit snugly into the end of the rubber hose which I had left over from the previous battery. The Porsche battery vent is at the positive end so no need for an elbow which was nice.

Thanks again for the help. Here are some pics of the battery installed.

Is there a plastic cover over the '+' post?
And is that discoloring on the battery compartment cover above the '+' post area?

Don't know where my 928 got it from but I have a black foam piece that goes over the battery so it cannot arc against the battery cover.

You probably have a cover over the plus post but it just wasn't photographed.

No plastic cover or any type of insulation between the battery post and the lid. I wouldn't think it would short unless the battery was loose and able to move inside the box.

No discoloration on the lid either but there is a light scratch. Not sure how to repair it considering it hasn't gone through the paint.

if you dont have a cover for the hot post you should make one tyu using a coolant bottle or an 1 qt oil bottle make sure the cover goes between the top and the battery cover as well as along the side where the jack post runs close to the chassis/
You can trim the bottle by using a corner and zip tie it to the battery cable
