Default 86.5 for $ 22,500.00 ..... 66K miles 5 speed

sale-gugpc-1086618454@craigslist.org
I talked with the owner he got the price from a collector car price guide, it says his car is worth 25,500 and he paid 22,000 about 18 months ago.
From the pictures its black on black and it looks nice .
He said he drove it once in the last year and half and has not a clue about any maint. items and has not done anything to the car except replace the muffler with a RMB,

Car is listed on Denver craigslist on March 22

He accidentally added an extra zero in front of the decimal.

WOW! I'll sell my 90k miles S4 for a bit less than that for anyone interested! My gawd...if that guy paid $22k in the first place he was an IDIOT, and if he were to even get $15k for it he would be setting records these days!

So he overpaid back when the economy was doing well, and now that it has tanked he wants to sell for even more?

I took some time to chat with him via phone and he seems to think that its worth every penny.
I told him on a good day his car might be worth about 8 to 10, but with out knowing any of the service history, he says he has records...... but the car has been sitting for a 18 month or more.
I told him that he could buy a GT for that kind of money. He is an older gent and isnt in any rush to sell, I just thought I would post this as it was way out of the ordinary price

$20K is what I will have into my 86.5 black on black five speed with 76k by the time I'm done. But that will mean new paint and ALL maintenance and upgrades done by either me or Stan. I don't consider it a smart investment, but it's been fun to do.

I still think a low-mile, pristine 86.5 5-speed could get $13k. There are some of us who know the secret worth of the .5.

Indeed; in fact I know of a very good one coming on the market real soon, at a realistic price.

What could happen for a car sitting for 18 months stewing in it's own fluids.

Has he tried to start the beast in the near past?
And has he peeped into the 2 TB cover holes to see what condition the timing belt is in?

OK ...."greater fool theory

Definition
Observation that any price (no matter how unrealistic) can be justified if a buyer believes that there is another buyer who will pay an even-higher price for the same item. This line of thinking causes and fuels stockmarket and commodity market booms and manias which, in due course, lead to busts and paranoias." ...... All he needs to find is that ONE GUY !

Where was this guy when the sea water was receeding from the .5 in my avatar- I'd have givin him the 1/2 price sale...
And yes - If I count my time - I'm WAY over $25k.....
But the first drive will be worth every penny and every minute...
