Excellent Malcolm! Now I need to decide whether to tear that deep into the center consol, or put that job off for another time.

Ed,
If that is where it's broke off in the pic, then you may be able to "fish" it thru the firewall, from the location shown in the more recent pic in the cabin.

No worries Ed.

As Jim suggests if the white vac line is connected at the solonoid end you may consider a patch job with a new length of line on the engine side of the firewall to the water valve.

Failing that, it is possible to remove the solonoids without removing the centre console 'IF' its been off since the factory and the centre screw was omitted. Once the 2 lower panels are removed from the centre console you can access the screws at either end of the actuators and if the centre screw is not in place it can be persuaded toward the drivers side. If the centre screw is in place you have to pull it all apart............BTDT

Dwayne has a good write up (search is not our friend).

Will someone please point me at a good diagram? I am working on my GTS and it's been a LONG time since I worked on a car with the emissions control crap in there ... so, where does it all go? I have a heater line ... check. A flappy line between solenoid and valve ... check. I've got a big line from the splitter at the middle of the firewall to the throttle body ... check. And then ... well things get a little fuzzy. I have a black line from the splitter at the centre of the firewall, and a grey line from the driver's side of the splitter at the brake booster (I think the grey one is flappy cacuum). But what goes at the exit to the flappy solenoid? What goes to the two emissions items (pop valve and carbon canister valve)? And which is which between the grey and black line from the firewall splitters?

There are some older threads where Wally P had some extensive discussions on the various vac lines inside the dash, including by year. Search using the quote marks around every word and the "and" between each (under the wonderful new world of Renn searching!)

H........there's 2 seperate vacuum systems which supply all the lines.

One is from the brake booster and the other from under the throttle body.

The brake booster supplies the 4 way, one input 3 out to the cruise control, HVAC and flappy. The HVAC line is typically black and the flappy line grey. The grey attaches to a solonoid which triggered electrically at specific rpm opening/closing vacuum to the flappy.

Under the tbody theres 3 vac ports; one to the 5 way spliter, one to the charcoal cannister and one to the air pump valve. The 5 way controls the fuel regulator, fuel dampers and auto transmission.

John Pirtles site has excellent pics but all the Lister sites are down. I'll get something out the WSM,
Hope this helps

Malcolm thank you! I'm thinking I'll be able to get there with the info from you and Tom F.
