Default Have you done a Automatic to Manual conversion?

If so, got any pics of the build up you can share?
Right now I am looking at just installing the firewall part.

Greg, I have done it, but I don't have pics. ( No digital camera 10 yrs ago)..The firewall part was not too bad- I had a piece cut from the donor car, so I separated the donor material from the gusset and used that for a pattern. Cut the hole with a die grinder and cutoff wheel, then cleaned it up with a carbide burr. I had the car about 2 feet off the floor, so i didn't have to lay on the floor to see it. Assembled the gusset to the firewall with epoxy and steel rivets. been there for 10 years no problems.
The rest of the swap was simple mechanical R&R. Best thing I ever did to the car..!
If you have any specific Q's I can answer, let me know- but you sound like you can do this without much trouble.

Steve

Thanks Steve, I have the motor out, so that should help.
I want to make it look as factory as I can.

I will know how it looks, I know, but I just hate doing work that looks "Home made" even If I am the only one that will ever see it.

And really, what is it going to cost to do it that way?
A little welding rod and some paint?

OK, I have a thing against pop rivets, there I have said it.

Have you checked to see if your 928 has the bracket?

My '85 auto had the bracket on the firewall from the factory. I was seriously considering converting it to a 5 sp, but ended up sellling it and buying the S4 5 sp.

Here's a pic under the carpet of my '85. You can't see the bracket from this pic, but you can see the hole where the rod from the clutch pedal goes through.

I could reach my finger in there and pull it back and see the bracket it self.

Might be worth taking a look if you have not already. -Ed

Uh, no I have not checked, and I am going to be really mad at myself if it is all ready there.

I will check it on Monday, thanks for the tip.

PS, with all the work and money I have put into this 400$ car I am going to keep it till I am gone.

Heinrich sold me the '85 and he told me the bracket was there. I checked, and sure enough it was there.

I've since had more then one knowledgeable 928'er tell me that none of the automatics have the bracket, but some of them do.

can anyone confirm if some GTS automatics also have the bracket minus the drilled hole?

I recall Roger mentioning that it was there on late production cars. Makes sense as they would just weld in one firewall.
