Default Question about wheel offset vs. wheel width

Example:

Wheel 1: 18X10 with offset 54mm

Wheel 2: 19x11 with offset 56mm

Questions:

Is the additional width of Wheel 2 all on the inboard side of the wheel?

If yes, it stands to reason that Wheel 2 would sit 2mm more inboard than Wheel 1 and one should be more concerned with inboard clearance issues with the wider wheel?

Or,

Is the 1" additional width of Wheel 2 split .5" (12.7mm) outboard and .5" (12.7mm) inboard which would mean Wheel 2 sits 10.7mm (12.7mm - 2mm) more outboard than Wheel 1?

I thought I understood offset better than I apparently do and one needs to consider wheel width as it relates to offset. So confusing!

Thoughts?

split 1/2 each way IF the offset is the same. Offset is how far away from the centerline...

So then based on my example above, to use a 19x11 wheel and have it sit exactly where the 18x10 wheel (54mm offset) sits without messing with spacers or changing out wheel studs, the offset on the 19x11 wheel would have to have an offset of 54mm + 12.7mm or 67mm? OR, find a 19x10 wheel with a 54mm offset?

What are you talking about?

The case is very simple. As both wheels are mounted at the same place, the second is 1' larger than the fisrt. So, if the offset have been the same, second wheel will take more place than first with 1/2' outside and 1/2' inside. In mm that's mean 12.7mm outside. As the offset is 56mm in the second instead of 54 mm for the first, then second will be 10.7mm outer and 14.7mm inner.

Am I clear?

It sounds like you want to go to 19's but have the same fit as the 18's, right? With the 11 width you'll need the 67 offset. Or just find a 19x10+54 as you mentioned. Based on my understanding of you question, yes.

56 offset vs 54 offset on 10" and 11" respectively will give you a rim that is 14.7 mm further out and 10.7 mm further in.

It depends on the year of your 928 too. I have 19x11's on my 1980 euro spec "s" model and they have a 67 offset

I am looking for a 1 pc. wheel and it's going to be difficult to find it a 19x11 in a 67mm offset.... Not many 19x10 wheels out there from what I've seen so far. I would consider a multi-pc wheel if I could find a style I like and don't really like anything from the usual suspects.

I think my rears are 19x11.5 w/a 62 offset and fronts are 8.5/19 w/a 53 offset... they were for a 997?
