Agreed, it is crazy, but so are most of the folks here. Has anyone tried it?

What is your favorite system? Is there any way to tie it into the RDK brain-box and the digi-dash display? Maybe simulate the RDK RF signals? (Of course that's crazy, see above).

Cheers,

Maybe the higher pressure makes more sense on the heavier cars -- but mine's not THAT light. It's 3440 lbs. with 1/2 tank. I'm running 31F/29R(cold) on KDWs, but it's to be expected that different tires will like different pressures.

Thank you for the system calibration instructions, I never knew that.

I've been using the RDK system since picking up the GT last year and it has worked without a problem. The accuracy is very good but as others have already mentioned there is very little room for error (probobaly a German thing).

A couple of cool things I have noted:

The system will differentiate between slightly lower than recommended and vs a great deal less then recommended. The arrows will either flash or stay on constantly depending on the pressure below recommended.

I typically just change the screen to the outside temp and let the RDK warning stay in the background but what I have found is that if you start driving the car aggressively the RDK will pop up again on the main screen and warn you of the lower pressures. Pretty cool....

Tell me more about these spacers? Last year, I just mounted GTS-RDK wheels on my '91 and it seemed to work. (I didn't have them mounted for very long though.) Prior, I looked through PET assuming that there was some kind of spacer or other difference that brought the static part of the system closer to the rotating part. Wheredeyat in PET?

Dave-

In the '92-'95 PET pdf, the front RDK support brackets are 928 341 087 01 - page 112, item #20, while the rear brackets are 928 331 083 02- page 123, item # 43.

The corresponding bits for '90-91 are 928 341 085 01 and 928 331 081 01, respectively.

Here's all what I bought:

Front RDK support brackets - neeed 2 928 341 087 01
Front RDK support bolts M7 x12 *need 4 N 010 227 2
*Rear RDK support brackets need 2 928.331.083.02
Rear RDK bracket hex head bolt M6x20 need 4 N 010 217 9 use 900.378.030.09
lock nut need 4 900 910 010 09

About $70 in total, March '08.

You're lucky if the '91 brackets work with the '93 GTS Cup's, I wasn't so lucky!

Oh. THOSE brackets. Ok. I see them in PET now. I have love/hate relationship with PET. Thanks.

We'll see. A new jury may be called for at a retrial. I drove the car only a few minutes before putting it up for the winter.

At about $400 per sensor ($800 /wheel) the sensors are not somthing you want to screw up - this also makes swapping from 3bar to 2.5 bar rather pricey. If you look at the RDK sensores - they are sealed units like pucks that screw in into the big holes on either side of an RDK wheel - you'd have to cut it open & then what - weld it back together maybe? - first you'd have to take it out off of the wheel anyway....

I have a smartire wireless system - it works well. It may be possible to integrate it to the Digi Dash - but only for the alerts (possibly both levels). The individual perssure per wheel and temp per wheel could not be supported this way.

Yes in general you'd have to fool the RDK sensor into receiving differential signals from the smartire interface instead of each wheel and the speed reference. Probably possible, and i did consider it myself - but it solves only a part of the problem... Smartire is a nice system though - works very well.

You need to get 4 wheel sensors, the main unit and the remote display (only the remote display gets you the programmable warning & alert levels and specific real time temp & pressure readings).

Of course other systems may well be equally as good

FWIW, I sold a crappy set of chromed D90's with 8 working sensors in them on Ebay for $300 last year- couldn't give 'em away here. I assume the 1990 S4's that came with dish wheels also had RDK? There are cheaper ways to get sensors, not that a sane person would try to modify them....
