Headlight height adjusting device
Hello all,
My car is equipped with a headlight height adjustement device. It is operated with a **** located just beside the trunk opening ****. It is not common on north american models. The system is visible on the parts diagrams but no part numbers are associated to it, at least not in north america.
It looks like this system should be filled with some kind of fluid. Anybody knows how to refill it and which fluid is to be used.
I know it may not be worth spending time on this but I would still like to know more about it.
Regards.
M. Tremblay.

What year is your 928? They switched from fluid to an electric system in 90.

The headlight leveling system is filled with silicone fluid and the part number for the kit is 928 631 220 01, unfortunately I believe you have to buy the whole kit if you need spares. On my car ('87 S4) the tubing has become very brittle and seems to be unobtainable so handle with care! Later cars had an electrical system to adjust headlights so I guess our hydraulic system wasn't a great success!

It's an 89 S4. If the origninal silicon fluid is not available/affordable, any other alternative?
Thanks for the warning about the fragility of the hoses.

Unfortunately the silicone fluid system was not very reliable - if yours leaked out - that means it has a leak...!
You will probably need to refresh the lines to the hydraulic 'motors' in the pods - they most common break points are the hoses where they must to flex for the pod movement.
Once you have replaced these and pressure tested you can try to locate suitable hydraulic fluid - alternates should work.
The alternative solutions are to adopt the fixed pivot mounts of the USA cars (replaces the motors) and manually aim (avoids loosenes in the motors).
OR
Adopt the much more reliable electric system - a full replacement (it is possible and has been done).

While this topic has been bumped, does anyone know where I can get the plastic hydraulic line used in this system. Mine has cracked and broken in a hundred places.........

Beware that those H4's are most likely for a car that sits on the other side of the steering wheel. The H4 cutoffs will be on the wrong side, blinding US drivers coming towards you.

A Porsche mechanic told me the hydraulic system is only available new as a complete set, filled with fluid and ready to be installed
