Yes, he at the time was a blender and I was head of maintance.
My last few years there was as a blender.

and yes, when we both worked there many of the car guys used Castrol because at the time it was a better oil, even though we could get the Valvoline for free.

the new amsoil is not listed. Its more of a pure racing oil now that the racing 2000 brand is not available any more. the difference is less detergents and more Zinc. Probably not a bad thing for how we use it at the track.

Ive been racing with the new oil and it seems similar as far as hot oil pressures. its the same stuff, just more zinc.

If you are not pushing things to 260F, I would say either wesson or fresh pressed virgin olive oil will work

Mark, what's the name or number on the new Amsoil with the high zinc content?

This thread makes me wonder if the naysayers on the following broken cam thread have changed their minds.

Mobil 1 has a two new racing oils coming out:

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...cing_Oils.aspx

If you'll read the FAQ's, they're not recommended for street use. However, read closely and you'll see this recommendation appears in part due to the significantly HIGHER zinc/phosphorus chemistries (twice as much as their street applications) and their adverse effects on modern emission control systems. For our engines, I will assume this is not a significant factor, YMMV.

The other problem with these oils for street use appear to be the two available weights: 0W-20 and 0W-30. These appear far too light for our applications, however, I'm thinking of blending some into my regular Mobil 1 15W-50. Say 2qts 0W-30 and 6qts 15W-50. Would this not average to an approximate 11W-45 blend with boosted zinc levels?

This blend would be a little thinner than straight 15W-50, but heavier than the Doug Hillary recommended, and higher zinc-laden, 5W-40 Delvac 1 that some of us have had oil pressure issues with (myself included).

Alternatively, I've thought about adding a zinc additive to my usual 15W-50. This product from Lucas Oil caught my eye:

Any thoughts on either of these approaches?
