No, your are right. maybe i wasnt explaining it clearly. the add on vents were to route the air over the hood to keep the air from normally going under the car as it passed through the radiator. the little bump in the vent couldnt take a higher pressure zone like at the base of the windshield and create a lower pressure zone. It could reduce the pressure, not enough to change the direction of flow.

Lets not talk about he "50" thing!

GM might sue, I see some of the same styling features of the ZR1.

I love Corvettes, but that clear hood is just awful.

VENTURI!
Remember the blowing air over across top of straw sucking water up the straw physics experiment. Airflow over opening is supposed to pull air up through it.

Stole this diagram from M. Kibort's post.
Nice low pressure zone around the top of the front wheels.

Interesting how the front of the sunroof is at peak low pressure.

This is one of the reasons Marc T told me to do something with the sunroof.
That plus the positive air pressure inside the cabin, it has a habit of popping
open at 200+ mph...

John, does your car still have wheel-well liners in it? If not, some vents above the front tire help a bit with front downforce. Since your car is a track-only, you may think about putting a vent where the sunroof used to be, about 1/4 the size of the old panel, biased to the front. I think it has to netted so no parts of your body can come through. They like all driver body parts to stay in the car, so they don't have to hunt around for stray bits..

Since you are using the base of the windshield to take in cold air, you want your hood vents toward the outside edges of the hood...the hot air then flows off the sides and comes back into the cockpit, roasting the driver on its way out the sunroof vent... but it makes some downforce, so thats worth it, eh?

I've been planning to do these things to my own car, but it would be cool if you tried it first and let us know if it works...

Maybe think about a Cool-Suit?

Some vette racers literally take a cutting tool and cut vents directly into the hood. Works well for them - also reduces front end lift. (So they say)

I would say 1.5 wide - 6" long (3 or 4 on each side of the hood) - about 1" off the center of the hood and about half way back from the front.

YMMV

Looks like this CF hood could be sectioned right behind the bump with good results.

That looks just about right. what else would that bump be used for? looks like it was designed for optimization of the downforce vent.

John,

Please let us know what you come up with. This is on my list before the next track day. I also want to build a splitter.

Thanks,

Ken

Who would buy a CF hood with a shadow image of a puppy looking for a place to pee?

Are there any carbon fiber hoods out there for sale anymore?

I'd rather modify one of them than use my stock hood.
