Default clutch master vs slave cylinder

I have my new clutch installed (thanks Dennis, Dave and Andy) and was ready to install my new clutch slave cylinder. I noticed that the rubber boot that was on the end of my old unit was torn and my new unit didn't come with one. I noticed that the new unit did have a rubber seal inside the end of the unit but I do not know if this is the same boot. This had me look at the web site for the part and this is when I found Master and Slave cylinders. Is there a difference and how do I know which one I should be using? This is for an early 86 us model. My rubber boot is torn at the end and the old unit was in parts, thus my failure.
Any help would be great as I am so close to finishing this project up and I am going thru withdraws after this long winter.

My new slave cylinder from 928 Specialists did not have the same boot as the old one. Lots of pics here if you're interested, though I think the hydraulic line is routed along the swaybar on your car.

Ok, I must be having brain freez here, the master cylinder is what is up at the clutch peddle. Thanks for that, the pictures and info was vary good. Did you place a boot on the end of the slave cylinder or is it only the rod by its self that goes into the clutch housing and onto the release bearing arm?

As you see it -- no boot, it just assembled right into the lower bellhousing.
