Rob - our goals are pretty similar... except for my use of a slushbox in the ingredients

I believe we'll be running on roughly the same generation of Greg Brown internals, with the exception of you already having nice GT cams to use in the mix, and maybe those JDS units you mentioned...

It'll be neat to compare dyno curves when we both reach completion. You're still in tear-down-mode, right? Mine's going through break-in miles and coming in for bigger injectors, cams and a re-sharktune hopefully sometime in March.

I'm also using bigger magnaflows instead of your GT resonators - yers is gonna be louder

Ron-

Yes, but it'd be like the ransom of Red Chief- you'd bring her back pretty quick...

Shawn-

The JDS PEMs just make it easier to plug in for tuning, I'd just as soon not make Greg stand on his head in the footwell to R&R the LH and EZK brain cage a million times.

We're completed tear-down mode and are awaiting the return of the block and cams, otherwise all other parts are in hand. If anything I'm the hold-up right now, I need to finish getting glass beads off of all the things I beaded (oops) and put all the ancillary bits back together. I also need to pull the old motor so I can harvest the Porkensioner, all the intake rubber, all the timing belt gears, sensors, etc. I want to have it all laid out, clean, and ready to install so as to minimize the hassles during assembly.

I will be interested to see what it sounds like. The Motorsports X added a nice baritone rumble, now I'm looking for basso profundo.

I think you'll like the sound.

Mine is a mild but distantly malevolent burble at idle, turning to glorious tenor at speed.

I'd expect your setup to run a hair deeper but with extra bite due to the smaller resonators.

How long to get your block back? Mine seemed to take forever...

PS - take more time playing with your glass beads - I need a window to open up in Greg's schedule anyway

Actually, I'm happy to see he's busy given how rough the business climate is for most right now.

I saw nothing in Greg's post to indicate he was having a bad day, so I am not sure what you are talking about.

As far as him keeping the information that he has learned over the last 25 years to himself, I understand that 100%, this is how he makes a living.

Do you feel the same way about KFC? you think Coke is going to give you the recipe? Are they hurting the Chicken and soft drink fans by keeping this secret?

The man has got a HUGE investment in tools, on top of that only he knows how much of his own money he has spent to learn what works and what does not.

I will promise you, it is costing him money to let anyone come in his shop and help, and it is not about the hours he is not going to bill out.

It takes time to help and teach, and that is what he is doing, and I will bet you what little money I have in my pocket that he is not charging for it, and he should be.

There are more issues than just the couple I have mentioned.
BTDT

Building a 928 stroker engine is very specialized stuff, hell just building a stocker is.

He probably does not charge enough for his knowledge.

Just my $.02

as an admitted "rookie", I am always learning with new revelations about anything I do, regardless of how many "other" engines I've built over the past thirty five years......Porsche engine building is not an exclusive club. the biggest problem with the 928 stroker program, is that I thought it was put together to find an inexpensive way to increase performance using readily available domestic internals---how quickly it has become that I was dead wrong on this understanding.....

as I commented to Tom and Mark (928 Int'l) when I was visiting them this past Friday, I am continually amazed at how much information is kept secret. If these engine builds were being used in a competition setting, I could very well understand not letting your power secrets get out. otherwise---it does little to help educate the masses, and that hurts the enthusiasts....in my opinion.

This thread is putting another nail in my "I want a stroker" coffin. The only saving grace I have is that I am on the east coast and not 10 minutes away from Greg's shop, or I would be in big trouble with my ball-n-chain. Greg sent me a price list a few months ago, and damn, I need a much bigger piggybank to bust open!!

Everyday I try to think of a way to get that GB stroker while my car is on the east coast.

I bet that red car would be hard to catch with a big motor in it.

I'm having the same trouble----I know your pain, so to speak.

I've got a block, have a set of Chebbie rods, have a plan, but....but.........

I put the throttle quadrant back together last night. I took a page from Dwayne and found that a 1/4" diameter Allthread, washers, and 7/16" nuts works just right for seating new bearings in the throttle linkage pieces:

Then put it all back together with a little Tri-flo in between everything. Voila:
