Flooring the pedal on the 928 (not sure about other cars) tuns off the injectors so if it's flooded, it clears the excess fuel.

Yes,
I've been aware of ethanol contaminated fuel since '85. Small bike owners were constantly coming in and complaining about hard starting, to no starting, after letting the bike sit for any kind of length of time. Inevitably, the carb[s] had to be removed and cleaned out. Moisture, gum, sludge, dirt, fluf, even sticks!

Large bike owners would have problems after letting their bikes sit all winter.

If the engines were run until warm every day, there was no problem.

The occational emptying of the float bowl was helpful.....

See if you have spark first. A quick shot(but no more) of ether down the gullet and see if it fires. If it does, you probably just have gummed injectors. A pint of Berryman's B-12 in 1/4 tank of fuel can work wonders for that problem. Just jumper the fuel pump relay for a minute or two to circulate the cleaner, let it sit overnight and try again. If this works, run the car on the mixture till the low fuel light comes on then fill up.

If you're going to store the car, pour the recommended amount of sta-bil in the tank BEFORE storing. Once the fuel is bad, it doesn't help at all.

My 1980 had the same symptoms. It turned out to be the fuel injection brain. I used a cheap noid light to show the injectors were not firing (and a bunch of testing at the brain to confirm).

SUCCESS!

I had put in 4 ounces of "Sea Foam" with the 2 gallons of premium the other day.

Tried "flooring the pedal" this morning and it started up with a cloud of white smoke - all gone now as it sits idling in my garage. Off to run her and top off the tank.

THANKS EVERYONE - DRINKS ON ME NEXT TIME YOU'RE IN WILLIAMSBURG!

Congrats on getting it running again! I really wish I was financially able at this time to take that car off your hands. Good luck with the sale.

Seafoam -- basically Naptha and mineral oil. Not as aggressive as B-12, but hey, it worked! congrats!

Holy crap... how long did it run on ether? Also, are you sure that wasn't damaged to begin with? With all that carbon, there must have been some preignition going on, maybe detonation before the ether was used?

That can't be how the rings are supposed to be installed. No wonder there's blowby!

Naptha and mineral spirits? I notice that the Techron additive I buy for the gas tank every once in a while smells suspiciously like paint thinner/mineral spirits. Same stuff we use to thin varnish to spray, right? It would only make sense...
