They only cringed when I brought a newish BMW up and they didn't have the sand bags.

What was really cool after our sessions, they had the Hunter rep come in and get them set up for special programming for track use. They can now use the existing program and enter what the owner wants for camber/caster/toe for the track cars. Not just 928's, they spent the $$ for all the Porsche line.

Never trust a technician that gets paid $8 an hour. Watch their every move like a hawk. That's what I do, and I really don't care if it makes them uncomfortable or not. Fortunately, the only thing I ever need them to do is to mount/balance tires/wheels and alignments.

When I bought waSAABi at an auto auction, the radio code was missing. A simple four digit code.

So I drove to the Saab dealer with my registration papers. They looked it up in the computer, printed all the service records, and I was on my merry way. I never paid a dime for this.

Why does Mitshoebishi charge $75 for entering a four digit code? That sounds just as ridiculous as the inability of SEARS to properly handle a battery swap in your situation.

Jerome, you know the mitsi dealer MUST have writ that code in your service file. Hope its an easy fix.

Can definitely understand the frustration with Sears, though. They really work the counter to achieve price targets and service add-ons. And love to break the news to customers that whatever warranty they had doesn't apply to whatever the car is back in for. But they mislead customers who blindly think, on simple logic, that Sears has a corporate-style techician hiring / training program underpinning Sears Auto. My experience, like yours, is that nothing is further from the truth. Vintage Sears.

I got two alignments done there, then bolted on the third after hanging-out by the garage doors waiting for my turn. Grabbed the keys from the line-up board and ran. There was a technician in Sears uniform under a big pickup trying to remove a steering dampner, like a shock, and another guy had to stop an alignment job, reach underneath the truck and show the first guy how to turn the clicker on the ratchet. Honest. Like SS, said above, gotta be all over these guys. Might as well DIY.

It's not just automotive with Sears. I was checking out a new Sears store near me a few days ago when a customer brought his Sears self-propelled push mower in for warranty work. The salesman was trying to get him to agree to a tune-up while they were doing the warranty work. When he gave the price as $75, the man asked what was included in a tuneup. Spark plug, oil change, air filter, new belt and check the blade - all on a push mower. The customer decided that he could do all of that for less than $75.

I once bought a nearly new mower at a yard sale. Sears had told the people that the motor was shot, and they decided that they could buy a new mower for the cost of repairs. I lifted the mower, and the blade was curled up into the housing. A new blade, and my $10 mower was as good as new.

I don't buy much from Sears anymore.

Same here. I one bought some tires from the Local sears when I was in college for the rear of my 86' rx-7. They broke the cap on the rim and handed me the same line.. get a new one.. return with the receipt and we'll refund you... yaddity yaddity. I noticed that they had the same rim on the floor and asked them to order the part.. they agreed and a week later "had no record of the order on the books". Glued it on the rim and never went back.
Eventually rolled the car accidently and sold the whole set of rims for 80 bucks. Also only drove porsche since.. they don't roll as easily. ;-)

Thanks all for your comments and understanding. A couple of points and I'm letting this one go. I've had a good night's sleep and there are more pressing things going on in my life...and in this community. Let me try to summarize a few points:
  1. I went to Sears to buy a battery and a battery charger...both were on sale
  2. I intended to do the work myself as I knew I didn't have the code I was going to use the charger to hold the code until I finished
  3. Sears indicated that they could do the work, even after I told them I did not have the code
  4. Sears insisted that not having the code was not a problem
  5. I reiterated 5 additional times that I did not have the code and if it was lost would cost $75 to re-acquire it from the dealer
  6. Each and every time Sears insisted the code was a non-issue
  7. When Sears screwed up, there was no apology...other than $hit happens.., no recovery plan and only a belated apology
  8. Things very quickly spiraled out of control when Sears took the position that the whole incident was my fault and that the remedy was for me to take my car to the Mitsubishi dealer and have them re-enter the code
My outrage and anger were provoked by the fact that Sears screwed up, Sears would not willingly admit they screwed up, Sears wanted me to pay for it ....and final insult was; Sears tried to **** in my face and tell me it was raining.

Again thank you all for your comments.

And all they probably heard was, "blah blah blah customer-know-it-all blah blah telling us how to do our job blah blah". Unfortunate.

Wine wine bitch bitch..... Your wife should kick your *** for your lack of research and picking the worst place possible to work on your wife's car. It is your job to make the right decissions with regards to her health and well being. Proper car repairs falls into the category of her well being. So now that you learned your lesson, go out and find the right shop with a good reputation and get her car fixed. You should be very embarrassed about screwing up on fixing your wifes car and then telling the 928 world about your short comings. MAN UP FOR GODS SAKE

My friend once had a problem with an E bay vendor not living up to his sales ad and then trying to put all the blame on my friend, basically in the end the vendor said screw you took his money and did nothing didn't even get the parts he was suposed to, the vendor even had the ***** to say f off there is nothing you can do about it. well usually that would be the end of it, but not for us. Both he and I do alot of videos on youtube and are members in quite a few car related membersips on youtube. So an hour later after describing the whole situation on video and showing the paperwork involved he posted a video on youtube explaining to everyone who would view it why they shouldn't buy from this vendor. Well, then the coments on the video started coming in from other customes who had also had bad experiances from the same vendor, well within 6 months there were no more E bay adds from the vendor I wonder if he got the message?
