Default Policeman pulls over Shark:loud Exhaust, funny

Today I fired up my Shark after it set for most of the winter and took it for a drive. Not surprisingly I had to jump it. Only six blocks from home a County Sheriff pulls me over. I shut off my engine. He comes to my door and tells me my exhaust is too loud. I told him I had a Virginia state emission exemption for my 84 Euro and let him read the letter. He told me, I was not allowed by law to modify my exhaust from the original. Here where it gets really good. He tells me to start my car so he can listen to the noise. Well, when I tried to start it, the battery did not charge up enough, so it would not start. He then told me he could not do anything if he could not hear my exhaust.

I said, I had jumpers, and he said his car was unable to perform a jump. But he called one that could assist me. So another car showed up. The first cop takes off and this guy is as nice as could be. He jumps my car. And tells me he likes my car and it did not sound loud to him.

He told me he was from Alabama originally and all the cars from his home sound like my Shark (Nascar influence probably?). I like this policeman!

He then stops traffic and lets me go. Now we should have more cops like this one.

I went on to think about how petty it was this guy stopped me. Living in the Northern Virginia area we have a mess of drivers that have no business driving a vehicle. And this guy pulls me over in the middle of the afternoon in a busy city intersection.

Anyway, had to share.

You need a battery maintainer man. Could have just started the car, received the ticket, moved on.

I drive a stock-quiet 928 for thsi reason and others. Still have nothing against folks who like abit more symphony with them as they go down the road.

Here in the great and socialist republic of Kaleefornaya, the local police are armed with the same federal mandate that no modifications may be made to the exhaust to increase emissons. However, it's up to them to prove that there are modifications. Does an RMB increase emissions? How does it do that, officer? For the noise component, it's up to them to prove that it's "too loud". How loud is "too loud"? There's no clear standard here, in dB, or any formal test protocol that an officer might use to enforce some nebulous and subjective 'standard'. Got a calibrated audiometer? Traceable calibration? Trained to use it? Did you use it to measure this car? How? What was that noise standard again? Easy to wrap up the discussion in court, maybe before court if you swamp the officer with a bunch of stuff to bring with him to the trial.

I just don't like spending time on the side of the road, much less in court demonstrating how unenforcible the law is. I like the second cop, but not enough to spend social time with him by the side of the road.

Bull****. The only thing that would complete the lame picture of that "police officer" would be a harley riding by...

That is hilarious. It's almost as if your car decided to be difficult with the officer due to the insinuation that the exhaust was too loud. Talk about a smart shark!

Thanks for the laugh.

Great story AL! For once, I was actually happy about winter battery rot!! LOL!

So, just curious, someone had to ask, could he actually ticket your EXEMPT kick **** EURO, which is not-so-quiet?

Im just curious, as everyone knows, my exhaust is barely noticeable!!

Did you check the 1st officer's badge? He may have been a mall cop.

I have bigger fish to fry than that bull****. I like loud cars.

Sterling, I would be happy to drive your car while you watched from the sidelines somewhere. Just the least I could do for a friend

I would say my car is way to loud with the home made RMB. Sounds excellent but if I'm on it your gonna know I'm coming blocks away. It's almost too much muscle car sounding sometimes.

I know my car is too loud.

I've got X-pipe, cat delete, and magna flow muffler?

Thinking about adding a resonator.

Don't get me wrong -- I like the muscle car sound -- but mine is bordering on ridiculous.

No way I'll ever get the wife in the car. And yes -- on occasion I would like her to do so :-)
