Want to tighten torque tube on flex plate

Mrmerlin,
could you describe exactly what is involved in checking the rear pinch bolt. I have searched but not found any references as to the proceedure. I have had a look under the car but no obvious way of getting to it has presented itself. 1990 s4 auto.
Cheers, Myles

first the exhaust should be removed then the rear heat shields then remove the plug in the bottom of the TT at the trans axle junction turn the engine to TDC and see if your drain for the torque converter is showing up in the grate on the bottom of the trans.
(This just for your info)
Turn the crank till you can see the pinch collar in the TT hole remove the bolt and notice the amount of torque it takes to loosen it .
I suppose you could use a torque wrench set at 66ft/lb to loosen it. After the bolt is out check the bolt shank for wear marks, usually on its shank if there are deep cuts then replace the bolt and try to center the cutout of the collar and the trans input to the shaft you may have to move the shaft (forwards or rearwards) from up at the engine .
Once the holes are lined up then use some blue loctite on the bolt threads and install it with 66ft/lbs. then pry back the flywheel and set the front bolt then install the heat shields, rubber plug and bell cover and exhaust.

well usually the TQ wrench is just used for tightening, but in this case the rear pinch bolts are usually not as tight as the 66 ft/lb suggested, and that will tell you.
So a regular 1/2 in drive ratchet should work.
If you were using a beam TQ wrench it shouldnt matter if your tightening or loosening
