SOOO, YMMV!

I say OB is Original Body
S is spoilers front and rear (we are talking about BODY styles here guys, not engines, brakes or other suspension bits)
S4 is obvious and also refers to the GT body cars since they LOOK the same as S4's
GTS...very clear...the rest is clear as mud...

Nice looking car btw and looks like you have a nice collection to choose from too!

I tried to read your explaination but my short attention span kicked in. Why can't we keep it simple and have it be pre-S4.... Original Body. The front and rear facia is the same in all those years. So what if a spoiler was added, still the same body.

Although having been argued a thousand times, there is still always this confusion. It just seems so much easier to refer to the 78 - 86 style as OB. Adding the S for the spoilered version is a good clarification.

I realize the orginal intent of the OB designation was to refer to the 78-79, but because the body continued the same through '86 it will always be confusing, unless people accept OB as meaning the original body shape.

If someone simply said I have an S, or I saw an S, how many people would accept that without at least one further inquiry?

Perhaps there will never be a consensus, but there were only three bodies used for the 928, and there should be three terms to refer to them.

Well then, we might as drop all the confusing crap about "GT" and "GTS". Those are really just S4s, right?

The 86.5 which some like to call an "OB" is really just an S4 with early bumpers, so let's call that an S4 too.

Lumping 4 generations of development into one term seems to imply that if it's not an S4, it's one of those "Other Bodies" and ignores the significant differences in the different generations.

OB-Wan has spoken.

There are three distinct body styles, OB (or whatever), S4 (includes GT) and GTS.

All the defining development terms such as S package, 86.5, GT, 4.5, 4.7, Euro CS, SE and many others, serve to differentiate between the development changes over the years of those three styles.
Mixing and matching body style terms with development terms only serves to confuse a pretty simple demarcation of the three bodies produced over the 18 year history of the 928.

On the other hand, who asked me...............?

But that's exactly what you're doing... "OB" = "Old Bugger" = "CIS 928". It had nothing to do with the body style until some people got confused by the acronym and made up another meaning for it. Oh well, enough with the hijacking. We can arm-wrestle over this on the next fun run or SITP.

O yeah, Nice "S" you have there, F2!

FWIW, even my wife know what an 'S' is.

She said, "I saw a 928 S today on the road."
I said, "you knew it was an S?"
She said, "yea, it had the spoilers like yours."

See, even you had to make one further inquiry.

Congrats on a beautiful car in a beautiful color!

This does not look like any of the standard red metallic colors of the mid-80ies. Is the paint original, or was it changed at some point?

Are you really in Iceland? I would not expect too many 928s there, even though I know of at least one low mileage 89 S4.
