Default Finally (I think) Decided on an ECU for one motor

The new Haltech Platinum 2000:

It actually has support. And its not much more than VEMS, but much less "DIY and don't ask the makers".

It doesn't have sequential ignition, but thats not as important as sequential injection, which it does.

Then you really do not want to know what Autronic costs that Todd is using.

If I had to guess, I would say past experience with hit.

Well, it does do alot. I have a wife for what you mentioned.

1600-1700 includes the loom, remember.

AEMs are 2000, without the plug. Buggy, settings change. The support is good, but the forum is full of ghost issues.

Autronic SM4, what Todd uses, is I think about 2200 or 2400 for a new one. I think that may include the loom. There are some on Ebay for 1200-1600. No Loom. 928 support a call away. Hell, even pre-made maps if I ask nicely.

VEMS, which I have always been looking at is 700, plus loom. But the software, imo, sucks. The support - Sucks. The people who are behind it send out totally untested and buggy firmware versions that wipe out your settings in an instant. Basically, its almost as if they give you the finger at every turn - saying "F-U - you figure it out - we are way smarter than you"

Link G4 is around 2400 now with loom. Good support. Great system and software.

Megasquirt. I may run my truck on it since its very familiar now to me, and their software choices are improving. Batch injection. 500 or so for the assembled box with options. Plus loom. Plus LC-1. Somewhat buggy sometimes. Great support.

IIRC, Tom's yellow beast is Tec 3.

$1600 isn't bad for the Haltech, but I've heard their support isn't very responsive.

Carl sees a good, marketable solution for customers in the TEC 3. He can provide base maps and real maps with a plug-in solution. More power to him. I was never drawn to the system myself.

The support seems to be from their installers. Once you have a good person to go to, I think the need to go straight to Haltech is lessened. Do you mean for warrantee stuff? Or just tuning issues?

I'm still letting everything settle out before i buy anything. Engine in, power wires and ancillaries installed, basically a completed car that turns over, but with no ECU, and THEN I will buy one. A funny thing is that I have owned a megasquirt MS1, and TWO AEM computers that I never even installed, and then sold.

I have put a MS in an xr4ti and spent about 400 bones. Alot more complicated, but 1200 dollars cheaper. The critter in the post does look nice and prolly easier to do tho.

For me, it will need to be assembled for me. It must be MSII. And it must be modified to work with 8 LS2 coils, which is my ignition plan. So at www.diyautotune.com that means 410+50 for the wiring for the coils. 460. Plus something else I forgot. Plus Loom (100 or more).

I think the complication, however, is probably about the same? Wire up sensors, wire up ignition and injection, and plug it in. Its the tuning that gets interesting.

Hell, I could still pull the trigger on an MSII, but thats batch injection. I have 72lb injectors firing into a 562.5cc cylinder. Shooting in E85, which requires even more mass fuel per air volume. I need some really great injection control for a good idle. And I may find out the limit of the 4.5L and run some much higher boost than normal.

That is one of the downsides of the MS that I wish an update would be made for.
