rear wiper problems

Hi,
It's wintery in Chicago and I turned on my rear wiper without realizing it was frozen to the glass. It broke loose, but now it only goes halfway across and back. I tried parking it by hand, with the hatch raised, then closing hatch and running the wiper. No luck, it goes halfway across and stalls. When I watch the mechanism, it seems like it's running through full cycles, but the start and finish points don't match the original limits anymore.
Anyone have any experience before I start exploring the wiper motor, etc?
Thanks in advance

remove the BIG arm from the shaft, then run the wiper when it shuts off reattach the arm to the parked position then test the wipers

On the 1990MY (and maybe on your MY too?) the rear wiper is managed by two fuses. One fuse makes it go back and forth, the other makes sure it is parked in the right place. Maybe you just have a blown fuse?

Thanks for the ideas. Here's what I found: There are two splined shafts which move the large rear wiper arm back and forth. One is at the wiper arm itself and is secured by a 13mm nut. The other attaches to a short arm at the motor with a 10mm nut. Between the two arms is a push-pull rod. Both of my splined arms required adjustment, maybe they had become loose. Also my hatch was not closing tightly enough and I had poor contact between the wiper arm and the motivating cam at the hatch sill. I removed a shim at the latch and backed off on the hatch spacer rubber feet.
Sounds complicated but it did take about an hour to sort out.
Thanks again

Remove it - not necessary and every 928 looks silly for having one.

Sounds as if the shaft under the hatch needs lubricating - it should be spring-loaded up, and have enough travel to contact the hatch connector even if the hatch isn't completely closed.

Glad your onto the fix. Yes, the same thing happened to my front wiper blade, with the first hard Maryland freeze, following precipitation.
