Chromates are now considered hazardous waste, and there are fewer and fewer electroplaters around. It is a tough deal when you add the EPA onto all of the normal business problems.

Eastwood has some paint processes that will simulate the chromate look if you are trying for originality.

Of course, you can aways just call Jeannie and order new parts with the proper finishes. Not too bad for fasteners, etc.

Otherwise, try Google and the local yellow pages.

I use Techtrix (sp?) out of Gadsden, Alabama for yellow zinc chromate. There is also Oxford Plating right down the road from them, but the quality isn't as good. They will do big jobs and small jobs. Very nice people. Should be able to Google them. I got all my valve cover bolts and washers, throttle cable bracket, and a few other misc parts done for about $120. Of course I sandblasted them before they were shipped, so prices will vary.

What material are you wanting to plate steel or aluminum? If steel go with a zinc with yellow chromate it will look like cadmium which is no longer an option, if aluminum go with a yellow chromate. Here is a pic of my fan bracket that I glass bead blasted and had my plating shop yellow chromate.

Kore thanks for the info I will look them up. From you picture they did a very good job. I am looking to refinish all the bits in the engine bay such as the throttle body, cam bolts and brackets as well as powder coat intake and cams. Here are some pictures of what the car looked like when I first got it and now. It was such a mess, oil and ATF fluid where everywhere. Since then new seals top and bottom and new steering rack.

The first two pictures are from the first day I brought the car home.

after cleaning used DP600 degreaser great stuff

If you are looking to do the yellow plated pieces. I have a source here in FL. PM me your contact info and I will pass it along to him. He is not in business, he just does it for himself and friends. He is a 928 owner and might help you out.

No. Its a guy in FL who doesn't post here on Rennlist. The reason I'm not saying who it is, is because when I spoke with him about it 6 months ago, he made mention that he didn't want to do it as a business. He only wanted to do it for his car and maybe a few friends.

I used a place here in vegas called Artistic Plating and Powder Coating. They have done all my parts. Take them a bag of stuff...they count it...tell them the plating you want...a fews days later you get it all back hanging on a length of wire. The color i used was YELLOW ZINC if i recall. I did the throttle linkage...all the way down to the cam cover bolts....its the little things that will make it all stand out when done!

Tony-

How did they do the FPR's without messing up the guts? Did they cap off the threads somehow?
