we were especially concerned about it not getting a full 360 deg fill around
each cyl, We have every confidence in the mtr without a filler but I had wanted
some extra over kill insurance. We made to attempts at it then gave up, I bought some Belzona epoxy which was recommended as the stuff to use but
it was to thick to pour so I got their next thinner epoxy and still we couldn't
find a good area to pour it into. We were very concerned that it might work its
way under the o-rings and start to set up before we had a chance to put the heads on so they could force the cylinders down into there seat. So now I've
got two batches of expensive Belzona epoxy I don't need
How about pushing it in through block drain hole? If Belzona is running enough to level on its own I think it could be forced in from below and it would level inside block. In normal Alusil cylinder towers I don't see any problem in geting it even at the bottom.

This Belzona - where would one get it? How must the block be prepped?

Z,
If I were in the market today for a S.C. I would get the Procharger, no question
about it. But since I bought my Novi 2000 almost a year and a half ago, and
Todd has made all the brackets and pulleys etc, I'm kinda committed, at least
money wise to run that one for now then maybe leap-frog past the Procharger
and straight into a turbo set up at a later date.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Lizard931,
re: properly sized head unit, I'll be the first to say, I don't know the best SC unit
to use on my project, that is why I consulted the tech guys at Paxton/Novi regarding my combination of parts I was working with. They are the ones that
spec'd the Novi2000 unit for me. I told them I had a 10.0 to 1 CR V8 with 32V
& 4 cams , I gave them all the head flow #'s and the cam specs and header
size, etc, I told them I was shooting for 1050 crank hp which would give me
around 840 rwhp (a/t w/20% loss calc ) They told me that the mdl 2000 would
be able to flow enough volume to support a 427 cu-in mtr at 20psi and do it
within the RPM range that the blower was designed to run in And at the max
RPM my mtr would ever see (7200) (I plan on a 6400 ish rpm) I'm waiting to
see what the dyno tells me the motor likes best. That was 1 1/2 years ago, today I could use a more advanced design Procharger and make even more
power and break even more parts.. I may find that the untried combination
of power parts I'm using may exceed my original hp goal, if so then that might be enough to stop there ? but if it's even close to my goal # it'll still probably
be enough to scare the crap outta me anyway. I just think that a 840 rwhp #
is a realistic # to hit and live with in a properly setup chassis -- as a starting point.
C.O.P. > in theory I'd agree with you, but, having seen what Todd has done
with his oem ign, setup I'm waiting for the fat lady to sing as far as how
much the stock system can support. Todd is in the process of switching over
to COP because he is trying to run boost pressures up to 36+ psi . I'm hoping
my 18psi will be happy with the factory coil setup, if not I can easily add the
COP later but I'll have to contend with failing the visual inspection at smog time
(California) I'm trying to put this thing together and have it look as stock as
possible (minus the SC) which would be the only thing to remove every 2 yrs
for the inspection.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vilhuer,
re: pushing it through the drain holes -- to late, mtr is already together & yes
we looked at that as a injection point and it would have probably done the trick.
One of our main concerns was making sure none of the Belzona worked its way
under any of the cylinder o-rings before we had a chance to put the heads on
which would secure them down into there seat. We had no way to go in later
and check to see if we got 360 degs of contact/flow and verify that there wasn't
any seepage under an o-ring. So we decided to play it safe and forgo the filler
idea, there was just to much at stake to chance it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brendan,
I gave all the unused Belzona to Todd to use for future experimenting, ask
him for some ? I bought two batches, each one was enough for two motors.
The first one was to thick for my project because of the flanges at the top of the cylinders closed off all access to get a straight shoot at pouring, it would
be perfect for a mtr that didn't have the flanges at the top. The second batch
was thinner and poured nicely but at that point we discovered the potential
problems of not being able to visually confirm we got 360deg coverage and
no seepage under the o-rings. Each batch cost $365.00 X 2 = OUCH..
The distributor for the stuff is in Temecula, he gets shipments from Florida..

Joe, If you use the Cayenne COP units, with proper plugs, they have a Porsche part number on them

Much easier to get through inspection.

Todd already has a bracket made up for those coils to fit on the S4/GT cam cover.

I thought I had a picture of those around here somewhere....

Lizard931,
BTDT 2007, I test fit one to my car then sent it to Todd to experiment with,
It looks like there a pretty good solution and over time the failures have gone
mostly away, the current ones for Porsche are fairly reliable. Thanks..

Joe did you need the part numbers for the loom plugs and wires? If you hadn't bought them yet, I would as I think they prices are going up again.

Update --> The Engine/pallet got picked up today in Green bay ,WI it's now on it's way to So. Calif, should be here in a week or so. I went back and looked at some of my notes that I had started taking at the beginning of this journey,
and noticed the date on the top of the paper was the first of the year in 2006.
Anyway, my advice to anyone starting a stroker project is to build a separate
longblock and not remove the motor from your running 928. When building a
special one off project you have to be prepared for a different kind of time line
then what your use to while doing a rebuild on an existing motor. Being able
to still drive my car anytime I want while this project was going on has made
the whole experience turn out to be a very fun and exciting thing that I was
involved with, I'm almost sorry its over because I've really come to look forward
to talking to Todd on a regular basis regarding whats next on the punch list.
And not having a deadline to get it done has only made the final out come so
much better than it would have been if we had tried to wrap it up inside of a
year. In the coarse of the build we actually went through 3 different sets of
rods and 2 sets of pistons and numerous other details until we finally honed in
on a perfect (for me) combination of parts and techniques. (changes at my request) (Todd, thanks for your patients and direction)
I've only now completed the first half of the project now that the motor is done,
the second half will be getting it in, installing an air to air intercooler, some oiling mods, and some drive line upgrades. I would like to say publicly that my
experience working with Todd has been one of the most enjoyable and enlightening times I think I've ever had working on a car project, and I've been
doing them since I was 16 yrs/old. Todd is one hell of a first class guy and I feel
very fortunate we'll be best friends from here on out. Anyone going to WI for
upgrades is in for a heck of a good time.
