Default engine

I am looking for an s4 engine....hopefully with 80K or less...good compression numbers...& "hopefully" not an arm & leg in cost...if anyone coomes across a "bargain" in the next few months....keep me in mind....I'd like to stay under $4000.00 or if anyone knows of a wrecked 928 in the Louisville, Ky area 150 mile radius...I'm not in a rush, but my engine has 214K miles on it & though I got in running smoothly...my compression numbers are not consistent & I know I'm looking at a rebuild, or replacement.....
Thanks,
Tom Taylor 87 S4

Why not rebuild the one you have? It could be done for 4K, IMO.

If I could find someone to rebuild it for 4K I'd probably go that route....but I would not tackle a rebuild myself....I figured a good rebuild would run me 7-8k

you should be able to find another S4 engine for $4000 no problem, last i saw there was one on Ebay for $3600

I spent less than $4,000 rebuilding a GT engine that had a timing belt failure on it and i would always prefer that to replacing the engine with someone else's junk.

I agree. I'm rebuilding mine myself right now. Saw that one on ebay, figured I'd rather do it myself. Tom where are you located?

Yes, rebuild it, like you said your not in a hurry.. find a local 928 wrench.. (most mportant) and just pull it out, mark it up and do it. Once it is on a stand your half way there !!

I am located in shepherdsville, KY....about 25 miles south of Louisville, KY....I would have no problem pullling the engine...but I don't want to tackle the rebuild, as I don't think I trust my capabilities in that area.....clutch, timing belt....intake....brakes...no problem...

+1 to what these guys are telling you, You should rebuild the one you have. You will have a fresh engine and could even upgrade to GT cams to get a little more power. I'm sure there will be a 928 wrench within driving distance that would handle the actual rebuild.

Buy an engine and rebuild your old one, then sell it.
