I remember when I first heard of the 928's existance and was awe struck by it. It was in the back of a motor trend from the 90's, I was probably not even able to drive yet, where they did a high speed shoot-out with a buch of c4 vettes and a studebaker, which was strange. I couldn't stop thinking about what it must sound like and be like and the fact that this one had a built stroker motor, a freakin v8 porsche, how cool! The next 5-7 years after that I never saw but one or two driving and always opened the window to see if I could hear it.

Then one day came when a buddy of mine was looking for a new car within a certain price range and after a few weeks of debate I, joking, said what about a porsche 928! At first he was like yeah right, then we started talking about it here and there and the bug got him and swallowed me up with him. Before we knew it we went to look at one and instantly **** a brick upon the sight of it. It was a 1984 928S, tinted windows and the risky business color with boxter S rims, we came up on it in a circle street (coldesack spelling) from the back. Long story short he bought it for 4500. It was neglected in a few ways but wasn't that bad. In the end it was parted, god rest it's soul, and drug away by a board member here in texas, named Richard I think. He put maybe 3-4000 miles on it, but had SOO many stories from it.

I think I fell in love back when I saw it in motor trend and the ember it started was now a california brush fire, just unstopable... Back when he had the car I had a 1994 Pontiac Firebird Formula 6-speed, hence my handle and don't flame its just imbedded in my brain , and we drove around from time to time. Then after 5+ years of ownership I sold it to a close friend, then I got an 86 300zx from the original owner in immaculate shape for a steal. Drove that for a year and liked a lot about it that the firebird lacked like refinement, comfort, nimble handling, classic looks (Gunmetal metalic w/ dark grey interior), but something the firebird had was missing.... power.

One day a friend put the Z car up on craigslist for me, and not because I asked. I got a call some months later and sold it for more than I bought it for and it was then time to fill the void again. I went looking for all sorts of things, from ls6 fd rx7's to 944 turbos, but no matter what I looked at I always got an erked sort of feeling like it wasnt right. Then one day I just happen to stumble into an ad for a 928 local. Like a moth to a flame I just went, and thank god I did. 1986 5-speed owned by a rich doctor who bought it new with every option and serviced it VERY well. I had SeanR come do a PPI and basically said after looking at it that I need to take it before someone else does, like Roger or himself, lol. I am lucky to have started in the 928 nirvana that so many seek for.

It's fitting given the way I love cars and because of it, the type of cars I love that I own this particular car. It is by far the greatest thing I have ever owned and I am also appreciative of the community that surrounds it. I feel like the youngest person who owns one at 24, but I guess that just means I can enjoy it longer Now all I have to do is stay on top of maintenance and hopefully my 928 nirvana will be maintaned as well.

First of all: This is not a pointless story and you will find that many of us have similar stories so as we're reading it we are all nodding in agreement. The details may be different, the age may be different, but the search, the find, the feeling are all the same.

Second of all: Congrats on scoring a well-sorted '86 5 speed. Very nice car. IMO it's got everything you could want or need and nothing you don't. Add some dual exhausts, crossovers, chips and big brakes and you've got the perfect car.

Congrats on the purchase of your '86. Did this happen recently? I know where you are coming from... I bought my 1st 928 on my 25th birthday. Man, I've learned lot since then. Still got the bug though...

It was even funnier when a new guy replied after introducing himself in a thread like this and he jumped in right after the 'worthless'. He got all indignant and upset that we called his thread worthless. Then the 'pics' came in and he didn't get it.

Timing is everything. Timing and punctuation. And paragraph separation. Timing, punctuation, paragraph separation and a good sense of humor. Yup, that'll do it.
