Afshin-

Here you go, only 2 weeks late.

Looks like someone's been spraypainting my leather seats......

EDIT:

Thanks for posting Rob. I've never seen those retainers before, looks like a great solution. I wonder when they were offered and discontinued.

My current mats look similar to your navy ones in the picture. The backing is starting to crack on mine and its become brittle. The black backing is shedding all over the linen carpet so it stands out.

I've spent the last few weeks searching for an alternative mat with no luck. I think I will be stuck with Lloyds mats.

I would love to post a pic but the gallery seems to be broken. A week after asking them, admins, and no change Gallery is still offline to me. If someone can post a rather large pic or two for me I will send it.

Default "Cresting" mats

Since this is a gathering of floor mat experts, I have a question:
A set of Classic Gray Porsche crest mats came with my '91. I was told by a few knowledgeable 928 guys that these were a dealer option, and since they've been NLA for several years, they're rare.
Were they a dealer or factory option back then, or was it an aftermarket embroidery option before Porsche put the kibosh on crests being on the mats?

In any case, I put them in storage & got a replacement set from 928SP (Lloyds, I believe) to keep in the car.
The quality of these mats is every bit as good as the o.e.m. mats...in fact there's a very slight color variation between the o.e.m. mats, where the color is spot-on w/the Lloyds mats.
To make them stand out a bit more, I sewed a crest patch onto each mat to resemble the originals. Less than 1/2 the size of the originals, so more subtle. Since Porsche AG now feels that their crest should be treated with more respect than being on a floor mat catching mud & grit, they probably wouldn't approve
But I like the look:

J.P,

That looks really nice. Any idea if the crest patches are available in larger sizes? How difficult was it to sew the patch and or did you get some help from a professional?

My GT also came with the crested mat and I was always under the impression that these were originally supplied by Lloyds until Porsche put an end to it. The crest is relatively large and closer to the center console rather than the door which is different. The quality is very good but the backing is starting to crack and the edging has yellowed a bit so it doesn't match perfectly anymore.

Not sure about larger sizes. I got these either from a vendor at Hershey or eBay...can't remember. Sewing them is simple. Just pin them in position after aligning them. Use a heavy duty thread w/a medium to heavy needle and stitch away in your rocker like Grandma. Do a loop stitch (over the edge of the patch, up through the inside, over the edge, etc.). A decent stitch job will hold down the patch & compress the nap, so no adhesive is necessary.

Long-range followup: Roger, what was the conclusion of your inquiry about factory mats?

I have a set of the burgundy mats arriving tomorrow morning so we will see about the quality.

As far as I can see these are the only style of mat available from Porsche for the 928.

Part number 000 044 801 43
Colors
Black 5FV
Blue 4KV
Grey D5O
Midnight Blue 3GE
Beige 8UT
Chester Brown 6SC
Classic Grey 4XR
Burgundy 8MD
