autopower makes bolt in roll bars (4 point) but for a full cage you will need a full custom cage built by a race shop...which of course adds up quickly..... I estimate my full 8 point cage will end up between $1500-2000 when its done

this is my cage in building... from dia 45 x 2.5 and dia 38 x 3.2 CrMo tubes... custom made as for a 928 you won't found many... don't be surprized : the tubes alone are good for a 1000 $.... work was around 2 days with 2 welders...

We ordered our LeMons cage from Kirk Racing. Six-point, bolt-in, pretty nice job. It took two of us about three hours to get it all put together in the car, bit of tweaking (big hammer) here an there. And the price wasn't bad at all, right around $1000 delivered. I don't know if they have a template for a 928 but you won't know until you ask.

Speaking of safety, the words cheap and rollcage don't go good together.

Thanks Mark,
i'll see what Fabio has in mind, I have loads of tubing. The neighbors tell me a previous owner used to build race cars. I find semi buried parts once in awhile while mowing.
I think cheap and rollcage might blend with the le'Mons race Soupcan.
Just sayin

By no means was I referring to you or your work as cheap, I was generalizing that cheap and something used to save your *** do not go well together. I have personally witnessed the outcome of a cheaply built cage hitting a wall at 100+mph, it wasn't pretty and wasn't anything that would have caused injury had cheapness been a factor.

I understand what your trying to do, Mike. You labor, and bar is free so your cage will be relatively cheap in cost. That being said if it is not built with the proper tubing diameter/thickness/strength and not built properly it can hurt you more than help you in a crash. I have the tubing an electric tube bender and welder myself but, if I was lazy and or in a hurry to build it, I might end with a cheap and dangerous cage.

nono, sorry ,Brian, i didn't understand it like this.... just wanted to point out that i do not understand how one can buy a cage for "1500$"... ??... the full standard lenght tubes in CrMo ( to bend and not to have butt welds in one piece) was around a 1000$... ofcourse we did have to search for measurements ( a second one could go faster ) but with the reinforcement plates to weld in the car and doubling ones benead ( bottom) , there's no way i my opinion 2 welders can make that in 1 day... so let's say 20 hours x 50$ = 1000 again.... at least ! i think it took us ( first time alright ) about 40 hours !
It's not so easy, once you bended a piece to fit it between 2 existing tubes and have the weld preparation done... better to grind the right shape and then further "shortening" to have the right lenght... If you have the right lenght but still not the right welding preparation... the tube is scrap...

+928 on getting a quality cage, makes a big difference in safety. That said, you can buy cages all day long here in the states for <$1000. They will be bolt-in and will not include extras like Petty bars, but they will be quality builds from reputable shops with a lot of experience. Our CRX cage was a very nice piece of work, good welds, full SCCA-spec. Came with all mounting hardware, baseplates, dash crossbar and two removable door bars per side, all for ~ $1000. Less common cars like a 928 will be a little more, but Autopower has the template and I believe a few others do too. Custom weld-in cages will be more, figure starting at $1500 and go up depending on what you need. I usually tell people to plan on $2000-$2500 for a true custom cage from a reputable shop like Robinson Racing. Definitely not something you want to half-*** by yourself.
