Default charcoal y-connector

I have been having some gas smell lately on my '84 Euro and thought I would check the y-connector since it is usually the culprit. It is not in the passenger fender well. Is this thing on a Euro? Does it even have one?

Most euros don't have them pre-S4(?).

ROW cars are vented directly behind the center of the back bumper. All the federalized cars I've seen have a hose from the bumper outlet which goes to a small charcoal cannister somewhere on the car (over the axle, or up in the engine compartment), and from there to the engine. Usually the aftermarket bits are disconnected, or leaking air, so I would yank them out, and restore it to the original design.

USA 86-up have a line which goes from the charcoal cannister all the way back to behind the bumper, too. This is the breather/overflow line which on previous years connected to the airbox. On my S3, I deleted the cannister, and at the firewall, looped a hose from the vent line from the tank, directly to the line behind the bumper.

Ken,
How do I know what the original design is supposed to be? I do have a funky little cannister hose clamped to the gas tank cradle. One of the lines from this goes to the airbox up front. Everything else seems to be all back in the rear near this cannister. I am a little afraid of ripping a bunch of stuff out if I dont know what is stock, federalization equipment, etc. Does anyone have any diagrams?

(This is what the USA system looks like) in the right front fender.

On a euro, anything from the line behind the back bumper is non factory, and can be removed, plus the connection at the engine plugged.
