Default Step 1 done - new paint

I got the 82 back from the painter today. He painted it back to the original Silver color from the "Bronze" and peeling clearcoat that the PO had it painted. I need to put the trim back on in spots, but I can't wait to get started with the new carpet and get the Can Can seats into it.

First pic is old color.

Very nice!

Get some Leatherique for those seats, it will really bring back the color. It would be really easy to apply while the seats are out of the car.

Thanks. Yep, Can Can seats and black carpet, doors, dash, and roof. I'm actually re-doing it for my daughter and that's the color scheme she wants. Leatherique will no doubt be applied liberally to the seats this winter with an anticipated Feb install timeframe.

The car looks great, nice paint.
My suggestion look around for a set of 16in Phone dials, I think they look better than the 15s

Is that a ghost outline of the hood badge in the fourth picture?

I do have a set of 16's, but every one has some type of road rash that I'm going to have to address. Thank you for the offer Mike - I will take you up on that if you'll PM me the details/shipping particulars. Awesome.

JHowell37 - It is a ghost. The painter said it re-appeared after the color was laid. It didn't show at all when the car was in primer. He called about it and I iterated that the badge was going back on so I wasn't concerned. Maybe the silver worked through the primer???

Anthony - I'm generally of the "Oh great, another silver shark" crowd. But the car was originally silver, and it WILL look too cool with the red seats.

Thank you everyone. More pics will follow in the coming weeks.

Brad - It looks great! I've noticed a lot of OBs (and mine) have wavey front bumper covers; especially around the headlight squirters. Did you have anything done to yours to straighten it out or has it always looked that good? Just wondering what I'm in for when I have mine painted...
Thanks, and again, looks great! / Bruce

JHowell37 - It is a ghost.
It might just be fitting then - they are coming off the "ghost".
You might want to just finish yours out though.....
I'll send you some pics, these have been on the car for years... and have various coats of paint to show it. This might be a good case of you get what you pay for.... before shipping charges. I'll take bets on which ones look worse.

Did you do the stripping work yourself or did the painters do it? I have the same situation in that my '81 was ZinnMetallic that some pea-brain painted over with grey..and apparently didn't even scuff up the original paint..so it's peeling everywhere and i was figuring to get the "aircraft coating remover" and strip it off myself..but i understand it's a messy, nasty job.

Bruce - Nope, just lucky I guess. I didn't really know how straight the body and bumper covers were until he had it all primed. He said he made a small palstic repair to a crack in the rear cover, and he fixed and filled a little rusted area by the pass-side rear quarter window. Other than that he said he hardly used any filler at all. I just got lucky - the interior mess makes up for the body though. LOL!

Mike - that's OK. PLease send pics and I can maybe pick the four best? Thanks.

Surfdog - No, I didn't do any of the work on the body. I don't have a clue how. I can do mechanical and some interior work (as long as it's remove-n-replace), but I'll leave the body to the pros.

NOTE - new avtar and sig to match the new color...
