For your skin?
It seems to immediatley not burn through the blue nitril gloves, but it almost is absorbed? And starts irritating my (admittedly dry and cracked) hands?
Its the main ingredient in gasket remover.
Weird.

main ingredient in paint stripper. - Not good
also used to decaffeinate coffee - also not good, decaffeinated coffee is about as useful as beer with no alcohol - or a chocolate hammer.

Well, then there you go. It did a great job cleaning the gasket ghosts though.

It will grow hair on the bottom of your feet, make you talk like Pee-Wee Herman, and make you crave a Mazda Miate in yellow.

Used it unprotected in 1967 at General Electric X-Ray. Reportedly used to clean aircraft in the Air Force during same time period. Will evaporate on the flight line if you throw a bunch into the air. Like carbon tetrachloride will enter system through the skin. Like the majority of those in the USA I'm waiting for a class action suit so I can get rich and buy more Porsches before I die of chemical exposure - I don't want to work. Usually it is used with a sort-of retardant to keep it from evaporating while it works. One of the big benefits is the fact that it isn't flamable (don't quote me on this! Anyway it will almost certainly be mixed with something else!) which was the reason it was used in preference to acetone, etc.

Which mask would be best? I'll have to get some better gloves as well.

We use MC at work to clean the beds of our mills. Mostly to remove tape residue, nasty stuff. We use the thick nitrile gloves when we need to scrub. They work for short/moderate periods. MC will absorb into your bloodstream, even through latex gloves IRRC. Particulate is so small it goes right through. Use in well ventilated areas (fan blowing it away from you) with paint stripping gloves. Also doesn't hurt to keep the part of the rag your gripping dry as possible. Roll up the rag a bit so theres some buffer between you and the wet area. MC is a very powerful solvent but you should be fine if your careful.
