Default Replacing Ignition Switch

To replace the ignition switch on a 82 928 Euro S, does the dash box have to be removed? And is there anyone or place that can repair the printed circuit board on the back of my instrument panel? Thanks for your time.

If your working on the POD disconnect the battery first.
follow the WSM for removal instructions so you dont break any of the pod switches. ( to remove the pod switched gently pull on the head of each switch it will slide off then press in one tab at a time to slide the switch housing out of the pod)
Note that the pod is made of aluminum and if a switch body hits it with the battery connected then you will fry a wire back the CE panel .
Once the pod is off, the ignition switch is removed with 2 phillips screws that hold it to the back of the key portion of the ignition switch.
As far as the wave circuit you might be able to resolder a wire into the connection points but what is the problem exactly???

Yes your best bet is to remove the pod, for easy access and replacement....My first time took the longest about an hour or so....but in the past 6 months I've removed the pod and put it back on in under 20mins.....Theres some good instructions...http://www.nichols.nu/tip172.htm ....and others if you do a search here. Just be careful when you pull of the connection on the back of the old ignition switch....I put electricians tape to keep the wires that feed into the connection from falling out of the holder before I removed it...worked great. I had read of someone not doing it and the wires all fell out of the holder and they had a hell of a time trying to put them back in the correct order. But it should go easily and you'll be so happy having done it yourself....As far as the flex circuit board....I read some tips here on how to do some small repairs....mine is not working and I'm in the same boat as you on that one....good luck on the circuit board..but I'm sure you'll do fine with the switch...

definately has to come out..an hour is good, 20 minutes is amazing. I attempted this but then quit figuring I'd wait until I could get a new pod so it could all be done at once. I also need to do the ignition and the dash lights.

Some hints on the Pod removal and isntallation.

1. You can see what you are doing a lot better if you remove all the switches first. They pull out from the front.
2. when you go to put it back in, put the bolts and gromits on the pod. cluster first. then look threw the switch holes to line it up on its mount.

I repaired the circuit board my self on my 79. it took some time and some soldering skill and super glue.

The problem with the circuit board is that the ends of the circuit panel are peeling apart and breaking where they fit in the plug. Anything can be done? I looked up how to reprint a new one, but don't feel I have the skills to do that.

And thanks for the advice on the ignition switch.

I had the same problem, I had to clean the peeled blue film peices out of where the circuit board slides into, clean and used sparingly superglue to reattach the flex circuits back. The end results are still some electrics work and others still do not. I'm making due until I can get a used or cluster from a wreck or maybe someone will start designing and sell replacement ones...BEST OF LUCK on Yours!
