as I said earlier, the company failure was some time ago, they (the Sultan) are just getting around to selling the cars... they already exiled him and seized his homes and other assets

Andrew, I'll up the anty and give a cashiers check for $3,0000.00 and only want $500K back along with the GTS's. And oh, that would be a LOT easier to do than trying to find 700 virgins! You are too funny!

Before jumping up too high keep in mind that Brunei is RHD country. This means very likely all 928 in that list are RHD. Also Brunei is extremely humid place. Only most valuable cars have been kept in air conditioned garage. Most cars of the 3000 car collection were stored in several large parking structures which do not have AC. Even thought they been away from direct sun light they have been subjected to weather which is very hard on leather and electronics. This means interiors and ECU's are toast in just few years.
High end car sales have been going on for few years already. Banks who own them have been trying to sell them little by little to not to flood the market. Since they are almost all RHD most have gone to UK, Australia and New Zeeland. There aren't other large markets which could take large quantities of them even when sold over long time period.
List seen in this thread is just those cars which were in Brunei. Prince Jefri had many special cars in UK also. For example Pininfarina made Ferrari Daytona lookalike done using 550 Maranello parts, Ferrari 456 Wagons, 4D sedans and cabrios etc. He had a habbit of orderting cars in groups of 6. Many in somewhat wild color combinations. AMG used to have special room just for catering his needs. Also when Rolls Royce change wheel design some 2000 old wheels were dumped into sea off the cost of Brunei.
I suspect 928's haven't been at the top of the sale list. Them and other common as dirt AMG's etc are probably sold now as banks have seen how bad high end car market is at he moment and there isn't any signs of quick recovery. This means they would loose money if they kept those cars in some warehouse longer. They are geting old after all.

This is actually an old story that's been around for about 10 years. I remember seeing a similar post on this forum.
In short, the sultan and his brother were car collectors. Like all brothers, there's a little bit of sibling rivalry...they tried to one-up each other.
At some point and time, the sultan's brouther got into some deep S**#. The sultan was heart broken (because this was a hobby that he and his brother shared)....so much that he fired his entire staff that took care of the cars.
I'm sure we've all heard about the "yellow room" which houses only his best yellow cars. I don't remember if there were any 928's in there, but I'm sure that the collection was impressive.
There's probably a rumor (that's probably fact) trhat since they were running out of space, cars were dumped into the ocean. I remember seeing a picture of an abandoned pantera gts in a small village.
I'll see if I can find more info, but it's great reading for the car enthusist.
Regards,
Roger

Love the list of 9, yes NINE, McLaren F1 cars! OMG! That is like 15% of the TOTAL F1 street car production! Most recent F1 I saw the sale of went for almost $4MM too! Talk about a good investment! F1's are one of the few newish/current cars that have REALLY skyrocketed in value!
