Default Alternator broke off engine

When I bought my track car, the alternator was missing. I didn't give it much thought initially and put on a new alternator. It seems that the long top bolt does not torque down properly, so I think the reason the alternator was out must have had another reason as stated by PO . I assume it was torn off by some sort of incident.

Questions:

Can I make the alternator work where the AC compressor normally sits?

Or what is the best way to fix this? The mounting hole is still there, but the thread seems damaged.

Fix the original threaded hole with a helicoil. You could also mount it where the compressor goes, but you will need to extend some battery cables.

if the thread is damaged you should be able to pull off the bracket etc to access everything and drill it out and helicoil the threads.

Get a timesert thread repair kit. You can make it better than new...

timecert for sure. helicoil is old news, not even close to what a timecert can do. we put them everyplace on my block when it was overhauled. never looked back.

Often the metal boss that projects off the block where the bolt goes in is badly cracked and the fix is welding it. There may not be enough good metal to hold a timecert. We have seen this on several engines. But we have had several hundred engines
