In reference to the original post.... My car came with a Blaupunkt tape deck which is kind of useless in this day and age.

Fortunately Blaupunkt radios still have that same styling. I have a new Blaupunkt CD deck in mine, and it sounds great.

The original speaker locations are great on the '87 s4, I love how my system sounds.

I'd like a original blaupunkt in my car that was I could use the ipod tape connector. For originality and ,ebcause it would function better than the tuners.

I just got my rear woofers and mids back from being refoamed. They're lovely. But now I have a six-channel system (mids and tweeters share inputs through crossovers), a 4-channel head unit, and a 2-channel amp for the rears.

This is an '89 with a 10-speaker system. Did the factory amp include a crossover to separate the rear bass from the mid-and-higher?

Now, absent the factory amp, can the rear mid/tweeter combo be wired in parallel with the rear woofer for decent (not audiophile) quality? Or is there a better solution that will fit into the stock mounting areas?

When we got Rosy, the original Blaupunkt AM/FM/Tape was still in, and 'still working', but only on one side. Then, that working side quit as well.

Started hunting around for something newer, better, w/CD, 'cause tapes were being faded out, and had been for awhile. Heck, I still have 102 4-track tapes, and three decks... Anyone still have an operating 45 RPM car player???

Anyway, had settled onto a choice of a couple head units. They all put out more watts than the original 25 watt system, so I knew I was going to delete the factory amp.

Posted to the Rennlist about what I'd found, choices I'd gotten close to, and the problems I had with my choices. Wally pipes up, and tells me and all about a Blaupunkt distributor online site. At the time, I was expecting to spend around $500 + or -, and I was able to get all the same advantages I wanted, plus all the problems disappeared. The unit only cost me $120!
Last I looked though, the bargains had all disappeared.... My purchase was back in '03.

You might do a search for the place, and see if any bargains are to be had... I no longer know the email address...

And unlike a buddy of mine, I have no need of amps, sub-woofers, tweeters, non-stock cabinet's, or anything else, to draw the attention of thieves and 'jackers to my car. The sound of the car, sometimes mixed with a bit of radio, or out in the boonies with a CD or so, 45 watts peak, is MUCH more than I need. Sedate, no #flash# or *bling* is FINE by me! Someone before me had a break-in in Rosy, all sorts of broken glass in the passenger side of the car, while I was plumbing the new wiring for the new radio...

The place is up around Chicago, I believe, and it's name is Midwest Electronics. Thanks again Wally, you saved me a bunch of green!

On further reflection, it seems to me that I could get a head unit with decent output and put a crossover of some sort into the space where the factory amp was to separate the bass from the mid and high, and let the crossover mounted to each woofer do its job of separating the mid from the high.
