Default Sharktoberfest diagnostics

Bill Ball will be bringing his Theo tester with him and has offered to test the 88-95 cars. You can learn more about it at http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/Porsche.htm

I will throw my Spanner in the car tonight if anyone wants to play with it tomorrow. I only have the 19 pin cable so it's for '89 and up.

Wonder how many no-WOT and no-Hall sensor you guys will bring up with the Theo Tester tool.

I had no-WOT and no Hall sensor signal. That'll take away some grunt from the V8.

Those who are unsure if their throttle cable is slack or not should have it adjusted before doing the test so they'll be sure when they mash the throttle, the throttle quadrant is properly rotated. Instead of finding no-WOT and then adjusting the throttle cable like I did.

Speaking as 1st hand "victim" be cautious... Bills tester found LOTS of things wrong with sharky.... which in turn leads to a LARGE order of parts.... But the good news is I will recover a bunch of HP once everything is fixed!!!! So being a true masocist I'm having Bill check my new race shark too......that should be interesting!!

Yeah, but Mark's race car didn't do so well! Rear knock sensor fault. Fortunately Mark has a ready supply of new sensors. Plugged one in and still got the fault, so it's a harness problem.

Otherwise not such a productive day. Only one bad WOT switch, this in a 22K mile 88.

Oh, and my car can still do a decent burnout. The BFGs don't make as much smoke as the old Yokos, but when the cabin filled up with smoke, I knew it was a pretty good one.

Bill did my 89GT and it came up with a temp II fault (short)..but I'm not going to mess with it till I get back home since it's running so well right now anyway.
Thanks Bill...nice to know nothing major is wrong...

Hi Bill,
I don't think that was a valid test. The knock sensor has to receive a "normal" engine running noises signature so it can self check.

It has to be bolted to the block, and then the engine run to check fully.

You say "plugged in " - was it bolted to the block as well ?

Alright, could someone tell me why these diag. tools don't work for the '87? I thought I read somewhere that it can with a modification to the LH...

I think the problem with the 87 is that it doesnt store any codes. I believe it can run a diagnostics on the 87 but unless the error is present when testing, it won't show up. The 88's are similar to the 87 except they have fault storage memory. I believe if you have a 88 and up brain the 87 will store codes and be able to be effectively read by the testers...
