What about the Weissach at 0:43 in this video posted here before ?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDNBvg3thOY

It's one of the most exotic-sounding 928s I've heard yet. Anyone know what the setup is on that car (and can you make a 32-valver sound like that ? )

Cheers,
Erling

Just to save some of you the pain of watching that video with the ghetto music, here's the version where you can actually enjoy the exhaust notes without the crappy music.

Headers will go a long way in making the sound you desire. Here's a 32 valve Mustang Cobra with Kooks long tube headers and a Borla XR-1 cat back.

hehehe... kinda funny if you was on the outside looking in, thay all smoke. Mine does that too when first started and then you romp it. Must be burning excess oil in intake system.

Y pipe into a single has the best sound IMHO.

On my former 86.5 track car which had MSDS headers, I had made a custom stainles steel (SS) exhaust which had a custom Y pipe into a 3.5 inch single exhaust with one magnaflow SS muffler at the end. At every track day I was told how wicked the car sounded, like a V8 but different and how much the listener liked the howl. Of course this is at over 4K RPM.

As Jim said mixing the exhaust into one pipe will help give the 928 a more exotic V8 sound. You will have to experiment a bit but I do believe a Y pipe into a single 3 inch single exhaust with one to two small straight through mufflers will give you closer to what you want.

An RMB will only make your exhaust note louder, more like a muscle car sound, keeping the system you have now.

However an exhaust note is much like listening to music. Everyone has different tastes.

Cheers,
Constantine

I have MSDS headers into a Y pipe and a single out the back. It sounds pretty bada$$. I didn't like it at first because I thought it was a bit rude. I have since changed my mind. <------ It puts one of these on my face every time I rev it up.

That Weissach has euro cams, a 3" y-pipe into a single 3" Borla. I've been corresponding with him and that's the setup I'm going after. The single setup gets the beat and tone, while the cams add the fire to it. Best sounding 928 by far, and definitely does NOT sound like an American V8!

My 79 has a single open ehxaust off MSDS headers (single 3"). Everyone at the track says it sounds like the Mustang in Bullitt:

For the best sounding non-flat-plane V8 I have ever heard, I would need to point to the street chase scene in the latest transformers movie. It is the back "cop" mustang of the bad guy robot. Jesus - sitting in the theater, I got chills, and just started smiling.

(Before I look on YT for it, please enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foDcL...eature=related)

Okay, now that thats done:

(Edit) - I can't find it right now. It on the straight part - perfect sound in the theater.

Use "[yt]whatever[/yt]," where whatever is the part of the YouTube link after the "?v=" part.

This car has custom headers with a single pipe back to ,I think a borla muffler.
